In response to your thread LB, I actually think that you had made your mind up before you posted. So I don't think that there is much I can add to that. You feel more comfortable with the shop trained florist so you will go with her.
Personally I would prefer a college based student to work with me if she is at the same level of experience as a shop trained florist and if I felt as comfortable with both florists. My reasoning is that as I was college trained we will do things the same way, so I should not need to re-train her to do things my way. Once bad habits are learnt they are hard to change. If they are any good your staff will leave to set up their own florist shop if they have the inclination. It's what most of us did. I actually don't see a problem in that, it's a compliment that you have trained your staff well enough that they are able to "go it alone" (as long of course as it is not next door to you!) I think the biggest question should always be will I get on with this person? I hate people who don't listen. You tell them how you want it doing, they nod that they have understood then go and do something completely different. When you pull them up they usually say "but I like it like this." grrrrrrr. Good luck with whoever you choose.

It really worries me the way some people think about College students
![]() Doesn't it just depend on the person, rather than whether they have done a qualification or not, as to if they are going to stay with you or move on to thier own business etc? I have a job now and they know I'm at college and I'm really gratefull for it! To be honest the thought of all that responisibility is scary and I am very , very happy to just do the best I can every day and let my boss do the worrying!!! ![]() |

It is hard have seen many come and go a couple didn't make on their own and came back but the one you feel you would get on with best would be my choice regardless of training due to the fact we work so closely together

My mind was made up for me this morning,i wont be having either of them, after speaking to a wholesaler about the lady who works in another shop i was told things that were a bit worrying and speaking to the owner of the shop, no way!!!!!!!!
The student i just couldnt see myself getting on with. Its not that i have anything against students, and if the right one came along, there would be no problem,i also know whoever you employ could stab you in the back.!!!!! |
