It wouldn't be my choice to do it on a full time basis as I'd rather have the customer interaction but I wouldn't rule it out to start off with part time either.

I seem to have gone about it the other way round
I had to move up here to isolation to be near to family, giving up the heady delights and lights of Yorkshire.
The towns up here are so tiny that they could only stand one florists shop, and they are all very rural.
My nearest town is 10 miles away.
Consists of
2 newsagents/card/gift shops, Post office
1 florist,1 chemist,1 sommerfields,1 co-op
and another dozen shops, eg charities, bakers etc.
(But we do have a frock shop that sells Lulu Guiness handbags)

No Woolworths, WHSmiths,Boots,Top shop etc.
For gods sake, we havent even got a Tesco for nearly 30 miles

The only way I could still have my own business was to go online.
The main thing I miss is the customer interaction, you got to know some of them and their families so well.
Oh, and the bus loads of Wessies, whinging over the prices, ''cos it's only half that in Country Baskets''

While I agree with what you have said Potty we are all friends I hope and all would be welcome I also agree with parts of what tree said there are those out there who turn out shoddy work and undercut the florist and believe me there are plenty I could name at least 40/50 in a 50 mile radius the items they have turned out are horrific and they have in some areas taken a lot of business from the florist on hindsight I will remain on the fence on this

So what you are saying is you eat real bread from a bakers, real meat from a proper butchers, veggies from local area, eggs from the poultry farm down the road...doubt with all the fresh air and healthy eating you need a Boots..Not sure other than Sweeties what I buy from Woolies and so far remote nobody to impress so don't need a top shop...and I expect you have a good pub where you can hear all the news both local and afar and since you have internet no need for Smiths...Wish the South of England woz like that... we have Asda,Sainsburys x2 ,Morrisons,Tesco Superstores x2,Waitrose(arriving in next 6 months), Aldi all within 6 miles of home !! so no little butcher baker candlestick maker where we are

But what you also fail to mention Snowdrop there are also a lot of very shoddy florists out there...I have seen some real kack at the funeral directors from some shops which were worse than some home workers..depends on how people define homeworker..My attitude is if they pay their taxes rates etc and charge reasonable prices then fair enough, when they can cut every corner and get away with it, is the problem

Yes, to all of the above
Apart from top shop clothes arent really my style anway (or size)
and the pub is actually just over 4 miles away, so don't get there that often.
The butcher sells award winning haggis, and the steak is also lovely, he can tell you what breed it's from
BUT I still miss the customer chat.

As a kitchen sinker myself, I believe that our location alone doesn’t dictate the quality and standard that is produced. I totally agree with the comments that were made before about bad kitchen sinkers, and bad florists.

For me it is about pride, experience and talent. I made a posy for a friend’s grave a couple of weeks ago, and she was chuffed to bits with what I’d made, because she had been unhappy with the freshness and content of the posy she had bought from a florist the year before. People are seeing my work and liking it, and while I sympathize with florists who have overheads, and I certainly wouldn’t want to put anyone out of business, I think that all is fair in love, war and business, and if someone who is working at this full time can’t compete with me and my kitchen sink, maybe they aren’t doing enough to keep their business thriving.

Surely the bad kitchen sinkers and the bad florists out there won’t get repeat orders and therefore realize there is no money in it for them anyway?

Oh dear, I hope I don’t offend anyone with this.

Admin - I think Pussy Lover suggested there should be a section for homeworkers to post. I think this is a great idea, then it can be avoided by those who are not interested. What do you reckon?
Tree, what you need is one of those plastic boxes that are sold as under bed storage thingys, should be ok if you get the widest you can. Also buy one of the large deep ones and then you'll be able to soak jumbo oasis.
As to home workers -Horses for Courses

Yes YCF do know some real bad florists in our area and unfortunately although customers talk they are still going back again and again as for the kitchen sinkers not one of them in this area are paying taxes or anything else for that matter and are proud to boast about their situation I don't mind any kitchen sinker as long as they are above board but those who are proud not to pay their taxes etc are the one who really make me cross. I live in the country the pub is 5 mins walk away and our meat comes from the butcher bread from the bakery veg from local veg shop who has fresh farm produce every day eggs and milk from the local farm all other groceries etc from local grocer clothes come from local draper so yes I think I can tick most of your boxes although i am in the country nearest neighbour 1/2 mile away I am only 10 minutes from shops town which was made a city 3 years ago

Snowdrop, then if they pay no taxes and are proud of it...shop them to Inland revenue...name address etc business..its the only way...council and tell them that they are running a business from home...Most will have a business card of some description or even advertise on yell.com so another proof of business running..Got to put pressure on all authorites about them..
