I object at those that come in and think its perfectly acceptable to try and quiz me about things,,how do you do this? how do you do that? how much do you charge for ???? wotever,,,and then try and do it for themselves for some friend or family member at a ridiculous price and have the godamn cheek to stand there in my shop and tell me that its too expensive and they will do it cheaper themselves..I'm probably not making much sense but I know what I mean. Them that come in at 2.30pm on a sat afternoon and turn their noses up and ask if you've got ,,ermm,,I dunno,,some specific rose variety cos they are doing something for the table tonite,,,and look at you as if you are a piece of s***e cos you haven't ,,and I'm glad I haven't got it cos I don't want flower left on a sat at 2.30pm!! Ggggrrrrrrrr.
And them that come and talk about weddings,,,,and then say they are going up the market to buy flowers cos they are cheaper but could I order them a few bits of foliage,,,well no,,,f off up the market and take your cheek with you. Those that openly boast to all and sundry that they can "do" things and do them cheaper than shops cos anybody can do it,,florist shops rip you off,,you don't need to pay their extortionate prices,,let me do it for you,,,how hard can it be???? and then come creeping in begging for help cos actually they can't do it....gggrrrrr... and them that fone round checking prices and then have flyers printed offering crappy htieds with free delivery in your area!!!! Those are the sorts I object to,,the underhanded sly conniving tricksters that seem to pop up out of the woodwork at certain times of the year when they think there is a quick buck to be made,,but really can't be bothered with the hassle of a shop or its running costs. Thats what makes me angry. P.M.T and a baseball bat,,,any questions??? ![]()

Lexy this will cheer you up. A member of our local morris dancing group came in to see me. (mens morris dancing that is - you know all beard and knobbly knees
) He said they wanted flowers putting around their hats and could I give them a price. I know they do a lot for charity, and the picture I have of them in my mind from 2 years ago doing their bit on the village green makes me laugh so much I reckon that I owe them something. So I gave them a really good price charging only for the materials not for my time.A week later a regular customer of mine came in for some advice. She wanted to put flowers around a hat and wanted to know the best way to do it. Yes you have guessed it, they went to her and asked her to do it. She was totally honest about it with me and told me they had quoted my price to her and asked her if she could beat it! She will do the job for them, but she will have to use the cheapest silks she can find to make the job pay. Their loss, I would have used daisies, poppies and cornflowers for the country feel. Now they will get whatever she can find cheap enough!!

I have a hard time with the whole Kitchen Sinker vs. "real" florist distinction. It creates an US and THEM thing that, in turn, creates a division amoung us.
We all have a common interest on here - creating beautiful flowers and making some money doing it. I guess you could say that I just hate the term - Kitchen sinker. It sounds so scum of the earth and lower than low. That's just my 2 cents and that may be all it's worth but I just had to say it. Roberta |
