Don't you need some sort of degree...or is a certificate from 'The University Of Life' sufficient?

Don't get me wrong I thought the marigolds looked cool, though yellow would have been better

Hi fly2hi,

Thanks for your post. There is certainly a lot for me to think about before I act. I hear what you are saying about not waiting too long before you start your own business, however I really have only the most basic of basic understanding of floristry so far. I think I would be crazy to start a business just now.

HOWEVER, I am really really loving learning about floristry, and the highlight of my week is my night school class. I feel like I have found my destiny, I just need to find a way to make it work for me. I just wish I had found this out when I was 16 as I could afford to train fulltime then. However, I shouldn’t complain really because I now have a very supportive partner, some equity to draw against, and a LOT more life experience.

I’ve been dreaming of starting things up slowly and building as my experience grows. I would keep my full time job, and perhaps run a market stall around special occasions (Valentines, Mother’s day, Easter, Christmas etc). As I learn more and get more experience, my long term goal would be to start doing weddings and possibly funerals. I have a friend who builds professional websites so he would assist me in marketing. If the stall was going well I would have some fliers to advertise the wedding work, and I’d think about a leaflet drop in the local area.

Long term I am dreaming of my own shop, but that is a huge commitment that requires lots of experience.

This is all quite pie in the sky right now since I am just at the beginning of my training, but I just want to know that it is possible to earn a decent living from floristry, so that I don’t have a nasty shock if/when I take a leap into the unknown.

I still feel a little in the dark about whether it is possible to achieve a salary of £20k upwards within floristry. I know it is difficult to give clear answers without revealing your own salary, but I would really appreciate the guidance.

Thanks
