hi Newby,
I'd be more inclined to give a higher wage to someone with the 3 years shop experience if their work was good and regardless of any qualifications. No experience and straight from college would probably get min wage for a year, and slightly more for option B. op A)Min wage opB) £5 - £5.50 ph opC&D) around £6 - £6.50 ph Unless you're in the middle of London floristry is not a well paid job to be in. I try and compensate this by having a really easy going working environment, if its quiet I let the girl that works for me go home early sometimes, there's always exra money given at busy times, presents for Christmas and Birthdays, floristry is something people do for the love of the flowers and not because the wages are great unfortunately. ![]() |

we pay €8.50 per hour, but we also work with the staff on a % bonus based on profits.
On-going spot prizes - etc €50 gift voucher for biggest sale on VDay, €50 gift voucher for using up all the old flowers, etc etc this makes things fun for all the staff. ![]()

I´m not sure how you calculate the wages over there.
But I ´m sure everyone can agree, that good florists are underpaid. And I don´t think that there is a boss anywhere, that don´t wish or want to pay his Employes better. they just can´t. Our salery in denmark are almost the same as the ladies in the supermarket. Sad but true. the lowest paid in Denmark. But overhere goes the same. You don´t work with flowers for the money. But for the love of flowers. Flowers is a lifestyle. You can´t live of love alone, but a life without love is no life at all. So if you love flowers. (I sorry to say), but be happy as long as it bring food to the table and rent. Don´t loose hope, I ´m not saying this to scare you. I was giving the same speach as I entered the flower buisness 10 years ago. I saying this because, you should not be standing about 10 y from now and think back that you choose wrong. Sorry but kiss those Prada shoes goodbye and say hello to a life filled with collors, flowers, hard work and be proud. Overhere only a very good florist. one with at least 5-7 years experience. can have a salery that´s okay. And those that have this experience overhere, are so much "Flower freakes", that we rather work for less and have a great boss and good quality of flowers to work with. A true flower freake can´t be bought. if you ask me if I think it´s worth it. Then yes. ![]() |
