I remember a rather speciel girl, I worked with some time ago now.

She was about 29 y.o. cut just spell the word cat. and could not even tell numbers appart.
She was perhabs a little "behind". she had the longest blond hair I have ever seen. And she dressed and put on make-up like a little girl on 6 y. that just had to try her mothers make-up and shoes.

nails like a .... , well she could use those as knifes. she was perhabs looking a bit "vulgar" or like a barbie or something.
She were slow. But the sweetest person. one could not help feeling a bit sorry for her.
For it seemed liked there was no place for her in the world.
But after my oppinon there is a place and a thing for everyone to do.
So I told my boss, I thought we could use her for something.

And she loved flowers.

So she start working in the basement, cutting flowers and stuff.

There were not a day, where she did not put a smile on my face. Not always because of something right. But just the way she was.

Once she got stuck in our swingdoor. Do not know how that could happent. Unfortunely me and colleague laugh so much. It took five minutes before we got her free again.

for some time I could not understand why the long red roses, were... not so long.
Then I saw it.
She cut 20 - 25 cm. of. Why??????
Well, they fit better in the vase when she did, She told me.
Had to change that one.

once she had a present for her mother during lunch.
She was thrilled when she showed me the present and told there were 50 % of.
You know that almost half price. she said. and she was serrius.
Had to swallow my grin.

Well the point is. She might been as speciel as they get. But she worked hard.
and were a great help.
And she is still there.

So there is a place for everybody.

Yes Bellis we have a girl like that who comes in 2 days a week she is 40 but like a child and she cuts flowers cleans and will make the tea/coffee and she works hard and also loves flowers so yes there is a job for special people

Just that.

And next to these speciel people. Allergi for alstro seems like a small issue.

It´s worce if you call that "workhelp place" where they send out people who are in jobtraining. Not anything wrong with that.
they just sometimes don´t really think about what we do. They have a really wrong picture of what we do.

They think we are all "feminin". easy job, being a flowergirl, and it most have been a busy day if we have done one arrangement. NOT


it´s hard to take serrius, when they send a person. That starts with saying:
I have bad legs, bad knees, bad wrests, can´t stand up more than ten minutes.
My bag hurt, that´s why I had to start over. Can´t take the pressure, so don´t tell me to hurry. And I will not be working to later then 15.00.

Well that is what the imployment buisness is sending us. So we stopped using them.

This should proberly have been a new thread.
But I think there is something wrong with the image for outsiders of Florist and what we do and how we work.
We look all "glamourus" "feminin" and quiet delicate peolple who fancy about with a pink rose all day.

When I meet new people, and they ask what I do and I tell them I´m a florist.
They go all, ooooohhh what a sweet and nice job. I always wanted to stand in flowershop and enjoy the smell of roses all day. most so nice for you dear.

feminin my . . . I got hands like a farmer. Weel I am that too, but thats another story.

Sure it is nice. I would not miss it for the world. i don´t think could live without flowers.
It´s just that it is not that "pink" a world.
here I go, upsetting my self. I think I will go to the "let of steam room" and cool of.

Is it the same over there?

Yes so many say 'lovely wee job working in a flower shop' but as you say if they got their lovely manicured laquered nails dirty 5mins would do them and they certainly wouldn't want the long hours one mature lady came to work with us and left at lunch time on her first day the job was to dirty, slimly, wet etc don't know what she thought she was going to do came in dressed in an expensive designer trouser suit and 3inch high shoes wouldn't even put an apron on

i can strip 3 layers of gloss paint just by using my hands!

Something went wrong with the picture of the flowerbuisness.

perhabs it started with "my fair lady".

She was a flowergirl from start. Then got all the fancy dresses,
but she could not return to that life again.
