One of my F/D's didn't get involved with the flowers (only on the odd occasion)
They would just tell people where i was. They didn't ask for any commission either, just said give us some flowers for the reception room now and again. That was quite a good arrangement. Left a nice vase there and just popped in with a bunch of lilies each week or 2 (or 3). Theory was that the customers would notice the flowers and probably ask who supplied them. Better than any brochure and i'd say for less than a fiver a week.

Quite right C. I used to get people all the time saying "Do you do funeral flowers?" Well...yes actually...it's what pays the rent. But they wouldn't know cos you can't see them. It's what florists do, so there's nothing wrong with displaying it. I just never got round to it. Good suggestion of leaving finished pieces in the shop though. Did that quite a lot, just hoped nobody trod on them.

Funeral Window?
The only time I've ever put anything funeral related in the window was when Diana died, we did a Queen of Hearts playing card with lots of pics of her etc. I must admit it did cause a lot of interest... maybe that is a way to put our work on display...... never really thought about it like that before.
I suppose picking something topical does take the 'edge' off it a bit. The only problem I would find doing a funeral window would be the very small audience it would reach (being out of town). The website gives me the opportunity to turn the smallest enquiry into potentially doing all the flowers for all the family.... no matter where in the world they might be. Well worth the small investment believe me. |
