We are an independent wholesaler in Scotland and we have beaten Van Vliet's rose prices and thats with an extra week to order too. Also price matching other suppliers

I have oriental Lily specials going out at £1.15 and 3's for £2.25

I don't know what people are paying but going by the other posts it seems pretty high for stuff.

If someone could do me a favour after VD and let me know how they got on with Metz I would be very interested, I hear 2 very different sides to the Metz tale and am curious which one is true

The general concensus at the moment is that those wholesales who have guaranteed their prices are more than likely supplying flowers that have been put in the cold store... out of interest, what's your take on that?

I have got to be very very careful here with what I say as I don't want sued and slagging of my competition isn't a good way to do business but here is my careful way of saying it(I have problems not saying what I think by the way)

We price matched today as we have bought on the auction today, i did deals with my guys early on bulk buys. If you are a wee buyer sitting on the auction buying one bucket at a time the roses are dear but if you can buy them a trolley at a time then obviously you can get cheaper.

Its a risk we have to take to stay competitive, I refused to givce prices but said I could match things and today was D day, if my buying was bad then my big mouth would cost me 10's of thousands.

p.s My buyers told me of a very big company who had 12 buyers snapping up Grand Prix's on the auction last week???? no names mentioned.. court cases suck. hehehe

Is it the company that likes to use the seductive lady voice to push grand prix flowers...?

Not sure about GP, but something like passion I can believe. GP doesn't last that great for 2 weeks in a fridge

Depends on how fresh they are to start with?

2 weeks is easy with GP if good quality to start off.

Obviously the grower wants to hold back also, as last week the roses wont be the same price as this week, so they have probably been in their fridge for a week also to get maximum price

Valentines is not just a gamble for the florist but for the wholesaler aswell, even the guy buying them on the clock doesnt know all the facts.

Fun times...

Very good point, havn't really considered it from that side.....

well, you couldn't beat VV's prices when we asked you to...

We've ordered from Metz and will tell you how we get on.

As it happens, the manny from VV over the road asked me why we hadn't ordered from him so I told him. He said they'll price match in the future.
