All "good" bookshops...

Just replied to a thread by New Girl that got me thinking,
Why cant we the real florists have a saying that instantly conjures up top end floristry???...Hear me out,you will have heard this saying"available at all good bookstores/shops"....great what does that conjure up in your mind...top end straight away...the "good"in, available at all "good"bookstores/shops,rules out no disrespect "Khans mini mart and newsagent also possibly Tesco and Asda,it takes you straight away to W H Smiths Waterstones territory....
So why cant we have a saying like that, that translates the "good"(available at all "good"florist shops)and instantly takes someones thoughts away from the "flower seller" to a real and wonderful, proper skilled "florist"..

How do we get the message across,in a short and catchy way that there is a world of difference between someone or somewhere that sells flowers, and a real world florist.

Or we could spin it round and somehow diss/degrade the offering from lesser sources..you know like the "he should have gone to spex savers"everyone now knows through canny marketing, that if you want to see straight and look good fumble own to a"GOOD" optician=spex savers!!

Actually that spec savers ad is genius, the new one where the short sighted shepherd shears his collie. Memorable.

Even though im chocca,my mind still has a little space for thought...if we could run an ad campaign( and its a big"IF") tv or magazine based promotion..we could have two shops side by side on a parade, ones got a sign above it saying "FLOWER SELLER"some tat outside, and a window display full of greengrocers grass odd bits of drape some pull bows and some dreadful silks in chipped vases(you get the picture theres bound to be one in your area)...then right next door there's us.. a real/proper"florist" big sign"PROPER FLORIST" gorgeous window display and lovely flowers outside. Now the flowers seller has an empty shop and the owner is stood at the doorway looking out, gazing longingly at the long queue of people trooping in to the"real/proper florist"shop...then at the side there is Kevin Horkin or some other well known "sciencey fella"saying "ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE"!!!!!

Just got copy of Florist and Wholesale Buyer, sorry but even the hectic whizz of Valentines ground to a halt when postie arrived,i noticed on your editors page that you where museing along the lines of this post,do legal bods not feel we can claim the word "real" from the lesser offerings? and is the word florist, open to all regardless of any formal training or even a modicum of natural talent ?So what's to be done?
Can we the "real 21st century" florists help? because its gonna take an awful long time before this industry loses the barnacles stuck to the bottom of its boat otherwise.

something i watched once..

I think i watched a watchdog programme once where some girl (for the cameras)just opened up a hairdressers with no training whatsoever...customers trundled in this girl flicked and stroked their hair and just before setting about dyeing permming or cutting ,she would casually slip in the conversation that she had no training and had only opened today, there was a real look of shock horror and disbelief on punters faces, when it was all explained to them they just could'nt get to grips with the fact that in this country, you can open up as virtually anything without being vetted or checked by anyone. The parallels between permming or colouring a persons hair ,and that of assembling a few flowers are tenuous i know, but you get the idea..

Yes is the answer. Anyone who sells or arranges with flowers can call themselves a florist. In fact when I appeared on Watchdog two years ago the producer wouldn't let me say Real florist for that exact reason so we are a little stuffed. Tesco, M&S, Asda ... anyone could take a person to task if they felt so inclined.

haven't thought what the answer is altho loved your idea of the two shops so if you don't mind will ask Wayne my designer to see if he can knock up a rough to see how it would look.

its one of several that flashed through my mind, i had a get the girl ad,a well you wouldnt be seen dead at a funeral with those would ya! ad,but i did curtail this one a bit to "well you would'nt ..would ya".I also had one with a mum and son falling out in two identical houses "SHES SHOUTING YOU TREAT THIS HOUSE LIKE A HOTEL" in one house the son produces a majestic arrangement, whilst in the other house the son produces a runt of a flower sellers bunch, back to the first house all is well you hear what would you like for your tea son...in the other house the shouting continues with pace..as mag ads maybe not great but TV ummmmm..
