My boss used to give the staff member who had the biggest 'general' order value a £15 bonus. This happened weekly and did not include corporate/funeral or wedding. When i left and came back to find the business under new management, i did not sell up at all. It worked for me!
Its a little fun and competitive rivalry. Some arent interested cos they didnt need the dosh but a couple of us were. It worked for the boss tho! Order values increased! x |

Doesn't Maslow's heirarchy of needs come into play here? On certain levels I'm sure it does.
Oh for those unclear of this... Maslow's hierarchy of needs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Sorry, just my old psych stuff bubbling to the surface!

exactly !!! everyone needs a morale booster now and again !! and how you do that depends on your staff !!! for my staff, a cash incentive wouldnt work because i have seperate shop staff, and workroom florists, therefore the florists serve customers alot less !! We hired Tim and found his ideas inspiring and very motivating !! my plan is run a points scheme... sell an add on, chocs, balloon, vase etc , acquire a new contract customer, book a bride , recieve a customer testimonial etc etc each having a point value ?? When 100 points gained... a paid duvet day !! (day off)

the most famous gold star system has to be with McDonalds employees...no one ever has problems with their service
but that might just be the quality of staff they employ ![]()

As an aside: I always thought an interesting way to visualise his theory was to relate it to Robinson Crusoe... Firstly he needed water and food (physiological needs) Secondly he needed shelter (safety needs) Thirdly he needed companionship so he had made Wilson (Love/Belonging) Fourthly he needed to feel important and made Wilson his slave (Esteem) Fifthly he needed to get off the island (Self-actualisation) I guess it relates in as much as if the pay is acceptable you start to look for other important factors from work such as achievement and respect.

Gold stars, pats on the back, days off, a few pence for selling a balloon - they are all incentives!! Get it?? No matter how perfect you may think your staff is they are - like us all - human and need/want recognition for a job well done. Is that so bad???

Sorry Tim but I feel as though you have hijacked this chat site to "Sell" your `programme`[/quote]
Yes, I am plugging my own services - we are all self-promoters - but you will find me sharing my insight, experience and unique perspective throughout this forum. Guess it's a cultural difference... I repeat my invitation to either offer up a scenario or issue that is problematic at your store and I will share my experience. Additionally, if you want to point me to another thread where I can help, please do. I hope to being playing a more active role throughout the FN site as I travel to the UK and work with more progressive florists there this year!

I picked up on Tim on FC and may not have found him if he hadn't posted on there, so that is why I'm pleased to see him spending time on here, a lot of the reason florists do well is because they are prepared to try different things, If you are not selling goods it is not worth being in the business and useing different/new selling ideas is not a lot different to a new shop window display, we thought about getting help on this for a couple of years with out finding the right sort of thing we wanted, and if you look a what sales training costs (and its not that relivant to florists) you would see that Tim is not expensive
