How long is a piece of string Flo.
Last one i remember i was out for about 5 hours with around 30 orders and covered about 100 miles. On another day they'll all be within 2 miles of each other and you're back in half an hour

One of ours did 30 local in 1.5 hours another did 15 in 3 hours but was all over the place we are in a smallish town and have wide rural area and can do over 100 miles on a normal week day never mind the peakes like fly said how long is a piece of string

Mmm, I did say at peakes, which should be when we are our most organised ie into selected rounds/areas, so that piece of string is a known quantity. I agree different at other times but then probably one driver with the whole area to cover then that piece of string cam be any length! But at peakes we`ve & I mean all of us have to watch our overheads or we don`t make MONEY. Mmmm am I the only one concerned with profit!!!

I usually do deliveries but when busy I stay in the shop, all deliveries are then sorted into routes we had 2 friends delivering on Friday, 5 on Saturday and 7 inc me on Sunday to get the deliveries out between 9 and 12.30 ish 2 used our vans the others used their own cars (we insist our friends have estate cars) not true but several have. And I used our car on Sunday. I can't get it any more organised than that and it went very very well

Thanks Jim, It is really down to organisation as I`ve said before I do most of my deliveries but find it difficult at peaks cos I`m not in the shop keeping my eye on that. But saying that luckily got really good staff & they were stars this M/D, it was a slow starter but finished with a decent gallop up the inside!!!

My driver is 80 so he gets round them as fast as his old pegs will let him
. At busy times I get a runner for him (school kid) to take deliveries from van to door. He gets paid per delivery which I find is better than paying per hour. the kid gets £20 for the day which comes out of the drivers wages (that was his idea). Had another 2 drivers this md & vd but one was me dad and he gets a big hug for his time![]() |

delivery driver
I am the husband/driver who gets paid in kind Hm!!!!!!!. Delivering flowers can be a very stressfull job at times. I try to deliver all our flowers to the address given sometimes I have to leave with a nieghbour if they are a long way from the shop. At busy times mothers day/valentine/christmas it is really difficult for the driver. I also have another full time job as well (shift work).
At this point I would just like to add I know you florist are under pressure and work very hard also at these times and at other times during the year. I dont think you can put a time on this, delivering different times of the day help. Like avoid school run times, living in a town I try to avoid factory closing times. Although this can be hard because of the amount and different closing times of factories offices and the like. Not every day is the same road works traffic lights accidents traffice jams. Be kind and spare a thought to us stressed out drivers who help make the running of your shops like clock work. |
