taking on new staff - advice pls

Hi

After a really busy mothers day and aunty who works with me nearly stomping off in a huff cause i asked her to change a bq which looked like it was for sale in a supermarket, i realise i need a proper florist. Looking for some advice on how to go about recruiting.

I need someone who can take off the pressure from me. do a wedding in my absence etc and generally run the shop should i not be there (holidays, days off etc). At the moment i feel like i would have to turn a wedding down if i wanted a week off and am reluctant to do this hence the fact that every weekend in my diary now has a wedding in it!!! I know i should not be moaning at this and am very happy that after three years hard slog it looks like its paying off.

The advice i need is this

What is the going hourly rate for a florist like this??
What happens in Oct Nov when its really quiet and you struggle to pay them?

Really need some help in this area, any advice would be greatfully accepted. Only just taking a proper wage myself and feel that the busier i am getting the more stressful it is. Probably just suffering from md and vd madness but feel like if i dont get some pressure off i might as well sell up....

sorry to moan, i hope you all understand how i feel (i am sure you do). I am normally a very upbeat person honest!!!

Look for A part timer that can, If req. work extra at busy times, hols etc. (they are out there, I have 3 , any extra tends to paid out of my own pocket )

Wages : negotiable : down to experience/qualifications and area....( we are tight arse bastards down this way, u would be lucky to get above bloody min wage , who the hell invented that anyway)

TBH, its doesnt get toooooooooooo quiet here (touch wood, NO ! FM not that WOOD!)

If you decide to take someone on, do what I did and increase the price on your starting price of the BQ's, just get them to spend a little more (this is not increasing the profit margin, just the overall turnover)....

A small 10% increase on your stock prob wouldnt cause toooo much of a prob with your customers.

OR you could sack them hoping that they would come back for XMAS

Hi Tulips
If it's just occasional help you need I can do the odd day here and there if you like? I'm about 1/2 hr from Warrington. Anyway, here if you need a hand!

fba you are so funny - wasted arranging flowers!!!

Like the idea of putting up price of flowers, never thought of that. Might find them a little pissed off sacking them just when they need to save and then asking them to work over christmas but hey who knows!!!

i dont get quiet to the point of closure but me being a tight one wants the cash for meself

mind you i could always push the other bits and pieces a bit more, balloons and chair covers etc...
