I like Xmas and Mother's Day, I like the busy buzz, heads down cracking on with it, seeing my shop full of gorgeous flowers, and seeing beautiful bouquets and arrs all lined up waiting to go out. Can do without the lack of sleep and nob head customers tho hahaha. Yes tis v stressful and I was tres fractious yesterday, but I actually got some sleep last night and feeling a bit more bushy tailed today

I love Christmas and Mothers Day but hate Valentines Day. Then again, I always hated Valentines Day even way before I was a florist - I hate the idea that I should feel romantic that day and yes, I am happily married and not just bitter !!
I loved seeing all the nice springy colours we were using for Mothers Day, such a treat for the eyes after all the reds of Valentines Day. We had a much better Mothers Day this year than last. Last year Mothers Day fell on a bank holiday weekend for us on the island of Ireland as it clashed with St Patricks Day and a lot of our regulars went away for the weekend and didn't buy flowers. I didn't realise until this year what a difference it made. A great sigh of relief that it's all over now - roll on the summer weddings ! Flowerfool |

xmas does my head in..I love valentines cos you can have a bit of fun, even with the worry of the roses,,hate mothers day with a vengeance!! I'm a miserable grumpy old git. The peaks are nothing but trouble and strife,,all that work,,for what..to be able to pay the f'in g vat man and inland rev,,,all a load of bollocks. I'm glad they are all over and done with for another year. Some semblance of normality may just return now for a while.

Hi Lexy
That's funny that you are the opposite to me with the peaks. Feel the same about working to pay VAT/Inland Revenue. But I'm not going down that depressed path again !! Flowerfool |

We have now done them 13 times and/we enjoy them more than ever its a different ball game now to how it used to be, the shop is over 3 times the size it once was as is our work room areas, we can now have up to 4 florists out of the way were they can just do make up without any interuptions, we also have a very large room which we can fill with the flowers when they come in and not have to pack them to tightly then as we use them the next days deliveries can go their place in raffle ticket order so are easy to find for delivery/collection. we have been very lucky to be able to extend into next door then out the back, but it has made it possible for to get away from the after midnight finishes, (the latest we worked though all 3 peakes was this Saturday which was 8.30pm) and even working right though the night on more than 1 occasion if you have never done that it makes dealing with customers very intresting because you are never quite 100% there oh happy memories.

I have a funny love hate with them, hate the run up to them, with a real dread then wonder why as i really enjoy it in a strange way when its happening!!! lol
My old boss used to be the exact opposite and was all happy and bouncy in the run up and a terrible nightmare when it was upon us.....to the point she wasn't able to face customers............... |

oooh I like mothers day cos of the lovely spring flowers mmmmmm narcissi. I get sooo bored of roses and red things at vals. I'm quite glad now Mother Day is out of the way now even though it nearly killed us being so close to vals day. I don't mind xmas so much because it's more spread out, not so intense. I think xmas is a nice time of year generally though and everyone seems in a good mood

Don't like any of em really, though m/d is more bearable because, like Sosas, I love the spring flowers. I find the whole process of the peaks draining and always end up feeling like shite after. And however hard you try to be organised or have systems in place for things to run smoothly theres always something or someone that f***s it up

the peaks are so much different from a few years ago where people used to order in advance! Now people tend to leave it until the last possible minute to order or just drop in! I think people can get flowers wherever they stand now so they don't appreciate the work or time that goes into making them.
This past year has been particularly difficult to predict what people will want, I've ordered the same as the year before and hoped my suppliers would carry the stock should I need it! Overall though, I have to say- I hate the peaks! I hate doing the same things over and over and over again, the stoopid questions customers ask, the prices, the stress and the early starts! |
