Surely tho a licence shouldn't be required if you are listening to the radio? After all its public access isn't it!!!!?

They want the money to pay to the artist apparently!,you often hear the DJ say thats another 50p in royalties after he has played some music,my thoughts are if the radio station are broadcasting it and are paying for the privilege,then surely their 50p covers me the listener and my radio( and up to a maximum sensible amount of other people who may listen to the radio as well as me lets say 10, but for me it may as well be 20,30 40 or beyond)my point is the 50p has been paid.

hi, know this thread is a few days old but I just found the letter sent to me by PRS confirming that I was going to take the radio out the shop as I said in an earlier post there is a greyish area about listening to music on the internet it reads:

"PRS is not resposible for the content of external internet sites"

blah, blah, blah, have no idea what that means so in my mind it is saying:

"You are allowed to listen to music off of the internet", but then again I'm not too bright, what do yous think.....bout the quote not how dim i am

I had these wankers on the phone, at the end of last yearhavent heard from them again as my answers to them was not printable on f/news, without getting bannedi cannot tell u what i said

Asked trading standards if it was a scam...defo not!! take these people seriously,though draw it out as long as is possible,still no definative answer as to when or where you can play radio,soooo dont part with any monies(said in my best fonejacker voice),and if all else fails tune into talk radio...they cant "ave you on that one"

OK I have waded my way through the PRS site and discover that they changed all the charges in January 08 and, as I understand it, we're all now liable for a charge however big or small ... the only difference size makes is how much you are charged. However they do appear to have left out ipods and computers so maybe they are ok!!

All the facts are contained in PDF docs which you can access by going toWelcome to the MCPS-PRS Alliance but it seems to me were are stuffed by it.

Will double check as soon as I can but not around for the next couple of days so if anyone gets there sooner great!

Trawled through site,they appear to have all angles covered,from music played whilst someone is on hold on a bleeding phone(for f*ck sake???),they have found a way to take all or most businesses for some cash,all you can do is draw it out....it seems inevitable we are doomed to a music free environment if these plonkers get their way!!!
Even if not one single member of the public can hear the radio, they go on to state that staff are benefitting in workroom or factory from broadcast,either let each member of staff bring in a personal radio or quit,these guys want cash to go away or just hand em the radio and tell them to shove the lead up their arsssssssssssssse.

I saw personal radio and wondered if that meant some squitty tinny thing on batteries or could I plug my ipod into my battery operated speakers and have decent sound for free. I would ring them for clarification but fear I may open a hornets nest so feel best left alone and wait. Interestingly we don't appear to have been contacted even though we have a license for our hold music. Hmmm
