delivery charges

got a problem, following lots of good advice from everyone i made the decision to up my minimum delivery price to £20 from £15 and charge £1.50 delivery thinking i would be able to ofset this extra cost and get a new member of staff. However, this was going to be based on my competition who i was sure charged delivery and had a higher minimum. Bloody turns out that they all have free delivery and have a £15 minimum. I thought that i may just chaerge extra for make up (£6-7 instead of £5) What do you lot think, are there any other ways around it. Worried if a customer rings around and does not use me if i suddenly start charging and the others arent.

any advice welcome...oh wise ones...

I charge £5 for the box, cello, tissue and make up for a £20 ht. Includes xanths, solidago, and then some choice like lillies, delistar, gerb etc (all the exciting ones - not!!)

On £15 they would prob get about £13 worth of flowers but sometimes if the xanths are crap which make it look bigger i have to just bite the bullet and give them the full amount. What do you do??

I know i feel like that because i am definately more modern that the others even thought the flowers are traditional as mentioned above, we wrap them really nice with raffia etc in a modern box.. its just getting that over to the customer!!

On a Bq we only charge £2.50 to cover make up/cello etc
Hand tieds same charge but if they want them aquapacked then we charge a flat rate of £5.00 extra to cover for the extra fillers/packaging/time (includes the castle vase)
We also work on 40% with all other work, funeral tributes/baskets etc.

BUT our delivery charges are extensive running from free local (a lot in our area do this) up to £6.00 depending on distance from shop..... and also on complexity of delivery,,,,, hospitals we charge a little extra to cover the extra time involved.. parking/walking to ward etc..... .....

There is no way that the competition can be doing a completely free delivery, im only guessing (we have a few used to do it round here) but the further away the delivery, the smaller their £15.00 BQ is

yes thats what i am saying. Obviously they are telling the customer that it is free but getting the charge from elsewhere which is why i am thinking of charging more for make up and box and cello etc. Got to get the money for petrol from somewhere and i do the deliveries myself, i dont have the luxury of a driver just yet. if only......

I fail to understand how any florist can offer free delivery,,please correct me there if I'm wrong peeps,,if you have a delivery vehicle and a driver you cannot possibly afford to give this service free!!

My gw's start at £20,,plus delivery,,if it looked like customer was going to leave it cos they only had £15 I would do them a small wrap,,but it would still be plus delivery!! I keep instants done on display starting from £10,,,they are just 2 bunches s/cars and bit of foliage but done as h/tieds,,and they fly out cos sometimes folks just want a little something,,they cost me next to nothing and it gets me repeat trade. Obviously bigger ones would have different flower in!

Make up or mark up?

Am I right in saying, for example, £20 hand-tie = £25 with mark up, or £15 worth of flowers and £5 mark-up? I'm confused. I'm sure it's simple, but I'm stupid!
