Florist News

hi people i am currently studying floristry and i love it it comes so naturally to me so i have decided on what i want to do once i have the qualifications and experience,I would like to open an online florist as i dont want to rent or mortgage a shop not at the age of 21 but i dont really know how to go about it so any suggestions will be very helpful im also interested in wedding consulting, and the floristry would be a plus for the brides to be thanks

Hate to piss on your fireworks but you will really struggle with an online shop unless you are thinking really big. There is tons of competition, you only need to do a google search in your area to see just how many companies are out there doing the same thing. You might find you get more help in the homeworkers section as they will know more where you are coming from. Good luck to you.

mmm ok but were i live theres mostly shops and i think most of them are a bit rubbish personally,i want to go modern and do my own thing they are all traditional florists like country basket style i want to go all modern hip and flash but i will go on the home workers if that will help me more

I feel you have to accommodate every taste, or u can isolate your self... if u can go from naff to fab you will be ok. it would not be good for everyone to like the same stuff... becomes very boring... and if you can make a silk purse out of a sows ear you are on to a winner... know ppl who just "do modern" wouldnt be seen dead using that !!!! and personal it think you are best to be open minded and know what your customers are in to...

I agree with Alby...I think you will struggle trying to run a floristry business solely from the internet. There really are literally hundreds of them out there in cyberspace!

I agree with Alby, also why is it that a lot of you college people want your own business before you have even worked in a shop?and had several years shop experience?I know some of you want to run before u can walk, but theres more to owning your own business, than standing at the bench and doing pretty bqts and arrangements, and as for internet floristunless you have thousands behind you?id forget it, i know of an internet florist who started with 250k and she/him failed also boxed flowers are not the way to go.

I would pick up on what fba said. how do you know that all those florist who 'you think are old fashioned and below you' didn't start off with the same hopes of being the ares trendy new florist.

they probably did and found that there is no money in your area for funky trendy new designs.
do your market ressearch properly or you could be closing after 6 months, unless of course you do a couple of untrendy and olfashioned designs

most florist will tell you they love when someone walks in asking for something different, it is just that most succesfull florist shops have to cut thier clothe to suit thier needs

You get the experience from sweeping the floors, making the tea and watching the pros in a shop........trendy AND traditional. And when you have the right attitude perhaps you'll be allowed to touch some flowers.
