Hi
I haven't replied to you before but have read your threads. I opened my first shop in August so we've been going just over 6 months now. We got a really good deal from Barclays (who our business banking is with) HSBC wouldn't give us oen until we'd been open 6 months!!!! Anyway, we pay £14 a month but the charges for taking the cards is very good too compared to HSBC & Nat west that we looked at (although there is a minimum charge of £30) Because of this minimum we don't have a minimum spend to use a card - customers can pay by card even if they're only buying a £3 bunch or a £2 card - it doesn't happen often but custoemrs do like the fact that they don't have to spend £10 to be able to use a card.
We did get the machine in time for the opening (well, it was a few days late by the time it came, but it was within the first week, and yes it was definately worth it. And once the orders started coming in by phone as well as through the door it was essential to have the card machine.
Good luck with the shop
