Have any of you folks had to make a minion redundant ?

Have been in touch with FSB and am trawling through all the crap that we have to stick by, what im looking for is an example of the criteria you used to select the individual,

The member of staff has been working for approx 18 months which means no pay out (yippeeee) but I am having to cover all the bases on this one (she hates me ) so if any of you have been in the unfortunate situation of making someone redundant could you let me know of any pitfalls, and if you have a copy of the CRITERIA used for the selection, this seems to be the main part where peeps fall down and lose tribunals .

One thing i think you need to investigate is that before compulsory redundancy, as far as i'm aware, you must ask for volunteers (i only ever made civil servants redundant). . . . so make pretty sure none of your staff who would be eligible for pay put their hands up. Although the small business rules might be different. Have you got a local Cab office? they have all the regulations/procedures and are my favourite price, free!

Had already checked and although not sure if I "HAVE" to ask for vounteers I do know that it Im not required to accept a "volunteer". Getting most of my info from FSB "Federation of Small Business's" they are very uselful

Has she been there longer than the rest? if not cant you just say there isnt enough work and your going to have to let her go?

and offer to pay her a months wages as a goodwill gesture?

if i had put any names i would be nervous but honestly If she has a pc, she prob would be still using the cd drive to keep her coffee mug in.............

I believe if you're making someone redundant, by law you have to be able to offer them a different position in the business and it's up to them if they want to take it or not.
