Florist News

Hi everyone, i am sure not everyone will want to answer this but i was wondering how my shop rated for busyness compared with others, somedays i can get orders for 10 handtieds and then others 2, obviosly we are kept going with weddings and the odd funeral but wondered how much of the gift bouquet trade people get. just read a thread with shop getting 30 -40 ht per day which scared me to death. I started my business and its local and been open for 3 plus years, i know its a little like how long is a piece of string but can you experienced ones shed any light on how i should be doing after this length of time??

Tulips I have been in floristry for 17 years first shop I was in was busy but only at peak times would we have sold so many this is a first that I have seen have 4 friends with shops in different towns and none of them sell anywhere near this many I think the fact this is an old well established family business obviously well known in the area they used to have a fruit anc veg shop as well is the reason they are so busy so I wouldn't worry I think you are doing alright

Thanks for the reassurance Snowdrop. Most times i think i am doing ok and can take a wage all the time but othertimes you just wonder how you can make it bigger and bigger and if its worth all the myther

Like everything it takes time one of my friends has had her shop 30 years and is a brill florist and very well known she also knows my boss and how busy her shop is she just thinks good for her but said there is no way she would ever do as much and she is the only florist in a 20 mile radius so this is just an exception but know we earn our money

i have 2 shops and would be very happy if i did 10 hand tieds a day between the 2 - the fact is everyones trade is different - my one shop has hardly any passing trade but gets lots of telephone orders the other gets a little passing trade but relies on contract work from 2 funeral directors and relay work through flowers direct which serves us very well. so dont worry as long as you pay your bills and make a little profit and enjoy what you do - who cares what everyone else is doing. i used to worry about a shop that is on the other side of the road from me - what is she doing compared to us - should we drop our prices to match hers - but at the end of the day customers will go where ever they want no matter what you do or think so just enjoy your business and it will grow with your enthusiasium

yeah thanks for that fc, i used the ten example as a highest really. Am really happy with wedding orders and i do have loads of enthusiasm. Just think sometimes that i would like to make some real money, vd and md are good but only seem to pay for the crappy months beforehand. Mind you have just had a local venue use me three times for 4 - 14 table centres so if this continues it may be good. fingers crossed, thanks for reassurance. Just thought while had audience of loads of florists it may be good to compare
