Ok they are coming out week before we open,
What do i need to do??

Im worried as i only have 1 door and window(non opening) and no back door so what does this mean?

What do i need to know buy show??

Only thing i have is a first aid box
do i need to have all electrics pat tested too

also whihc fire extinguisher do i need??

im really worried about this can they prevent me from opening with only one door

Hi leanne, don't hold me to this, but a shop i used to work in only had one door and this was at front of shop. Never caused a problem. Please don't hold me too it, others on here may know better honey x

We only had the one door as well, and the only thing they said about it was having the illuminated 'fire exit' signs. The ones that come on if the power goes off.
Also had to have warning signs on candlestand, giving the basics about candles burn etc
Warning signs re poisonous berried plants etc.
Had to have a sign up showing name and address of owner, as we didnt live on premises.
Electrics need Pat testing every year once they are 12 months old.
Fire extinguishers as well.
We had dry powder and wet extinguishers

Dont worry, they will tell you what you are missing/doing wrong and revisit later to check.

as long as you have easy access to getting out incase of a fire i dont think there is a problem

I think enviromental health will be looking at things like how you plan to store your rubbish, is there anything your going to be doing with your business that affects the surrunding area.

Health and safety come under seperate cover I think so things like risk assessment, first aid box, fire extinguisher, etc. Perhaps soomeone out there can clarify.... but I'm sure that they are seperate.

I do believe tracey could be right there!!!!

ahh right never thought about it like that i just heard the word inspection and panicked

still need to comply with health and safety thou so good kick up the arse this has been

I only have one door and when the health and safety guy came it didnt seem to be an issue. Things I remember his saying is asking if there was a sink in the toilet, if you have flurescent lights make sure they have a cover on them, checking the fire exstinguisher....I only have one, and thats about it I think. Try not to worry, he is unlikely to not let you open, its just a formality....have tea and biccies ready tho.
enviromental health guy has never been to me.....but dont tell him will you
