Florist News

I have just purchased a small florist shop that is a wedding specialist too. It's well estabilished,and has many wedding bookings.The owner has sold due to health problems. I personally don't have any experience but there are 2 staff that are qualified. Any tips and ideas would be most grateful.

listen to the staff especially if they have worked there for a while watch and learn and i hope all goes well .where on the island is it? and make sure you get to the festival in june!!!

hi sunset, and welcome to the forum, Im curious as to what made you buy a florist shop without any experience, are you thinking of taking a course maybe, I would reccomend it so that you have some insite into whats happening in your shop.....hope its going well anyway, is there anything specific thats bothering you that you want to ask?

Hi I have always been interested in flowers and I love gardening. I have 2 restaurants at the moment(slightly different ends of the spectrum) that I hope to sell next year as i am close to retirement,but not over the hill. I wanted to have a small business that would give me just a reasonal return. Both my husband and myself will be involved. I will at some stage take the course, but the current owner teaches floristry so she said she would walk me through the basics.What is the summer fair in June and where is it?

hi sunset good luck with your venture, id let the staff show you the basics,they obviously know how to run the shop, let them show you how its done...bit weird you being the boss and all, the difficult bit is knowing your wholesaler, prices, stems per bunch and creating the right price to sell at, waste management ect, i hope your staff were given an insite into the purchasing side of the buisness from the previouse owner to pass onto you, but any questions you need to ask, youll sure to get the best answers on here

I would just like to say thanks to you all for advise and support. I will surely contact you if I have any questions. The only thing that does concern me slightly, is that the shop that I have bought is a wedding specialist and that's a bit worrying. She has 28 wedding booked already this summer so I will certainly have my work cut out.
