be persistant! try again at the shops you tried in september, they may be in a different position since you last tried, juniors and helpers come and go, spend a day visiting them all with your cv and really sell yourself as enthuasuatic, willing to learn and willing to work for free to get the experience.
With the summer hols coming up shops maybe looking for an extra pair of hands with staff on leave.I always prefer it when people come into the shop and ask if they can help out. I get sent loads of cvs but until you've met the someone in person you can't tell what they are really like. i can never understand shops that don't take work exp. people on, how can you get experience if people won't give you a chance. If your local shops won't give you a chance try slightly further afield, it's a pain having to travel but good shops are few and far between... as are good trainees. good luck ![]()

Do you need your work exp for an assignment like I do. I have to do 15 days and keep a diary to hand in, this goes towards my end markings. Fortunately I found a florist willing to take me on and I have until May 08 to finish the work exp assignment. The first florist I went into was quite rude saying they don't take work exp. I think they are probably rubbish and are worried you'll steal customers away from them. Belinda is having trouble getting shop experience so you're not alone.

Sorry, just to make you feel even worse, a girl at college has landed herself work exp with Paula Pryke, how lucky is she. May be there is a lesson to be learnt there, try upmarket shops that you think won't take you, you never know.

Hi Frizzytwig
We are supposed to do 4 hours minimum a week from start of course. There are a couple off us with out placements, our tutors mention it but have not really made much fuss that we have no place. I just want to get the experince and have tried every shop around here. Cannot see how I will get paid work. I personally do not want to work from home but I can see how some students end up down that road if you train and then cannot get into a shop. When I go into shops to ask I am really bright and enthusiatic and say I am willing to do all the crap jobs ect, work saturdays, to get an insight into the industry. They seem intrested and take my details and then I never hear anything. Mystry to me how anyone gets started.

It's a bloody nightmare really, I really don't know why some shops don't want free help, they don't even have to let you have a go as you're just there to observe, and as you say get an insight into the industry. Our tutors have started to get on to us about work exp because of this problem, I must be one of the lucky ones.

Hi
If you have read my posts you will know I'm in the same situation and I've been trying since last summer.
I've really worried that after I've done all this I'll not be able to do my dream job after all, and I'll end up doing something else. Even though I really can't afford to work for nothing as I'm struggling with cost's etc.. I'm prepared to do it for the experience, but still no luck Belinda |
