Hire charges

How do you lot calculate your hire charges for, say, vases for table decorations for a wedding? Do you base them on a percentage of the cost price of the vase or what? Ideas gratefully received!

To be honest i just charge what i think i can get away with including the design and then try and make as much profit as poss. think some of the others charge the cost of the vase. No scientific formula to mine chick but hope this helps

We tend to charge £10 for the hire of the vase but state in our Terms and Conditions that if a vase is broken we will charge the person the retail cost of the vase. Likewise with pedestal stands.

Does that help?

Hi Gang

This is an interesting one. Say if you decorated a hotel and hired out your vases and were broken at the hotel but no one owned up. Who would you charge, the hotel or the bridal couple??
Ian

It depends with whom your contract is. The person that hired the items is responsible..........

Agree with Tulip, we kind of charge what we can, generally the cost of the vase to us is the hire charge so that any future hire means its making money, and ditto if we sell it.

Many thanks to you all - it reassures me that I'm not completely out of line with you! I think the cost price is a good idea when it's a cheaper vase but when it's a big expensive one I think you might have to spread it a bit over time. I suppose it depends whether you've been specifically asked to get it in for a customer, whether they're rich or not and whether or not you like them!!? Obviously, if something's broken that's different...

yeah and if their surname is beckham, giggs, gerrard, hatton etc then you can afford to charge a bit more

We charge 25% of the retail price to hire. Then if it gets broken they pay the remaining 75%. The client is responsible for them, but we did have one occasion a few years ago where a table collapsed at a wedding reception and a vase got broken, so the hotel took responsibility.
