Is an interesting point that. Have seen on the news people like Eric Clapton insuring his hands for £1 million or something...and made me wonder when I saw a chef (Michael Cairnes) who lost half of his arm in a motorcycle accident, and still is a Michellin starred chef. But I am talking world class Musicians and Chefs...
Makes you wonder what the premuims would be for Joe Bloggs florist!

Having had a couple of accidents including scissors and digits it is worrying when you cannot physically work and have to rely on someone else (and pay them). I am sure my actual business insurance covers this if i have an accident at work and am unable to carry out duties but not 100% sure. More worrying i get arthritus in my hands, wrists, knees shoulders etc and wonder if this can be a life long career.

I am sorry to hear you have to have a knee op Carrington, hope you feel better soonl.
I actually have an Accident insurance - if I have an accident it will pay me £1,000 immediately and if I need a hospital stay then I get so much for every day I am there. We had a guy come to see us in the shop. The only thing was that he came at the beginning of April. You are now wondering why that was a problem.......... well at the end of January I tripped over in the shop late one night (no lights on!) and broke my left wrist (I am left handed) and therefore was out of action for Valentine's Day. As I am also the delivery driver things got a bit touch and go. Luckily we have a small church-run cafe down the road from the shop; we supply them with flowers for the tables and in return they supply us with free coffee and hot chocolate!!! The Pastor, Chris, offered to do my deliveries on Valentine's Day for nothing - so I gave a donation to the church. He was truly my Good Samaritan. We did struggle in those 5 weeks I was in plaster but luckily Candylottie was on hand to do all the orders and my Mum (aged 79!) was great when it came to the flowers coming in - she help condition them all. So (long winded way of saying it) but I think that if you rely on certain parts of your anatomy for your job then you should insure them!!!!!!

The thing is though, I think for most of us its not about the actual money (although some would be nice)...its more to do with not wanting to let your customer down and I'm sure we would all try our very best to complete an order even if we were on our death beds.
Its a shame really, we get so involved with our work and customer that we often put ourselves last, which in effect could cause more harm than good. I know ive cancelled doctors or dentist appointments just because an order has come in or somebody needs me to stay later than normal. |
