an end to saturday help?

from 2009 people that work with children under 16 will have to be registered with the ISA (indpendent Safegaurding Authority) which works with the Criminal Records Bureau. Registration will be £64 for each adult that works with them.
It's believed that the scheme will be extended to all shops employing under 16s.

i can see that is going to cause allsorts of problems for employers and the kids who want to earn some extra money. in a way i can understand why it being introduced and i know that these rules are being tightened up more and more, i have been checked as i voluntarily do my lollypop duty for the local primary and am a chaperone for my daughters dance group. but no one will want to take on young kids for sat or holiday work

I think there is a fine line between protection and interferance here, i agree the children have to be protected but personally feel that would be the parents job to ensure their child isnt being exploited. I think they are interfering a bit too much as some employers wont want the hastle.......wonder if I'll still get my paper delivered

Work experience provision going to be a problem too, quite happy to have them in for the week/fortnight from the local schools but they're nearly all 15

ooh hadn't thought about that twopetals, but you are right. We normally have a couple each year in for work experience, but if the rules mean I have to pay for them to come, I won't bother. They are never much good at anyhthing, I do it more to give them some life experience.

Same here but did have a really keen, quick learner last year...unfortunately she wanted to be a scientist when she grows up not a florist! Ah well, she obviously got too many brains!
Seriously though it would be a shame if we couldn't take them on, know we cant expect too much from them in a week but if they are genuinely interested its good for them to be able to get a little taste of what its really like.

Im a bit supprised, seems a lot of £ really? It will be a disaster for the schools, and won't give kids a good chanse at getting some extra dosh. There'll be a way around it, like not actually paying them, but buy them gifts or something?

Saturday work kicked off my career, i was hoping to give something back one day. Im also involved with a youth charity which helps kids set up businesses and id be happy to have someone shadow me for a week, see what business is all about, but not happy with charges

school/work balance

Im pretty sure that currently it is required that schools must be made aware if you employ a child under the age of 16,something to do with employment/work,which could clash with school work..not sure how strictly it is adhered to,so this could be a toughening/tightening of legislation to the point of strangling it..killing the goose that lays the golden egg syndrome.
