The reduced rent is SO worth it, overheads are continually rising so you've gotta keep things down wherever you can, particularly when you are just starting out. Yes it would be lovely to have a big shop but the are practical advantages to the small one. I don't know what your sundries suppliers are like but we have 1 that comes weekly, one fortnightly and 1 monthly so we just changed buying habbits and bought less more often.

Having said that it really, really sucked not having enough room at Mothers Day! But we survived and even when we were in the big shop we thought we didn't have enough room for peaks.
hehe..beating you by 2 sqm(not a feet person either!) We do have the luxury of having a storage room at the back thats just as big tho!! (we call it our 'party barn') small is soooooo much easier to stock! The shop I used to work for was around 500 sqm-greenhouse style-which was fun to clean! Have alot of comments from customers saying that mine is much more comfortable and cozy to shop in. Also its great to be able to have a good stock turn-over, you sell a load, you order a load and it keeps the customer coming back for a nose to see what new stuff has come in...even tho it may have been sitting in the party-barn for a month already!

good luck with whatever you do!!

Thanks everyone for your helpful advise.
Toddx your shop is huge compared with the one I'm looking at. I checked it out on the metric converter and it says 250sq foot converts to 23msq.(I hope I'm right, I was always crap at maths!)
Anyway you all have left me with a lot to chew on and I will keep you posted with what happens.
Thanks guys xx

hi catkins,
hope you are well, I agree with tulips, you could always store stuff likes vases etc.. somewhere else. If the rent is not too high and location is right then i would go for it...i would imagine it would be an ideal first shop. If you do not mind working in front of your customers, you could always have a long work area come counter in the sales area???
k xx
