storage of ladders - should be chained to a wall
storage and use of hellium - chained to a wall upright when bottle is used - storged lying down when empty or waiting to be used
wet floor signs - put one on the shop door way - in case anyone knocks a vase.bucket over - customers and their kids
when cashing up - lock the door
make sure all outside displays are not a hazard to foot traffic
signage making customers aware of glass - vases etc.

our tutor suggested we think of risk assessments from the stroppy customers view
look at anything - if you can think of a way it will hurt someone - risk assess it - put a sign on it if needed - cos someone deliteful person will find a way to sue ya ass

there's also disposal of waste (flattening cardboard take outside) not piling up (fire hazard)in shop, properly wrapping broken glass before disposing off.
There's general shop safety such as lighting (adequate) floors should be non slip (trip hazards), signs for steps, outside blinds kept in good condition, plugs at waist height not floor height where they can get wet, no blocked fire exits.
Hazardous substances should be properly stored (bleach, glue, spray paint, insecticides) hazardous materials kept clean and stowed properly (secateurs, german pins, knives, wires stem strippers)
Appropriate PPE to be provided (gloves, aprons, masks), relevant training, sensible storage usually cover most of the actions required.
Oh the joys of assigments - happy days!

Other than that something like

1. water on the floor
2. staff/customers
3. Mop up quickly, put a "wet floor" yellow sign around the hazard.
4. Try not to spill it again........lol
do you really have a yellow sign thingy... never thought would need one of those.

Jake

Good luck with the assignment. I do this on a daily basis for the a Large NHS Hospital. A little different I knoww but the principles are the same. Think of stock control and damage and if orderes can not be met. Try to focus on the finacial risk of the business too.

Regards
Ian
