This is one of my favourite threads of all time!

I must admit I would normally be reluctant to say I'd say no to any work ........ mainly because, in this instance, I thought I was alone.

Hats off to those that say they'd do it and thanks to those that are with me on this one. I know my limitations and find that even the smallest wedding is a last minute responsibility that disrupts my normal business. At VD I have 300 un-timed orders and over 3000 roses to deal with. For me taking time out of that to deal with one timed delivery, wiring a single corsage or making the simplest of wedding bouquets, I admit, stress's me out at a time when I need to make as much hay as I can in the limited time I've got.

Just as well we're all different and there's people out there who would take it on ........ how romantic ........ a Valentines Day wedding

Hehehe, bless em. I have no pity for them when they pick Xmas or Vals for their weddings, they know it's a peak time and should expect to pay more than at other times of the year. I'd be really firm with them about what I can do for them, keep it simple, bridal party only, and make them collect. If not, surely we are forcing them into the arms of kitchen sinkers? Plus, as someone else said, they will remember you for being the one that helped them out when everyone else was saying no. The fact that they didn't come to you first we should just gloss over hehe.

Mother's Day otoh, cos the date changes every year, often brides aren't aware, and every year I say to my staff, DO NOT let me take a wedding on MD weekend, and every year I relent and take pity on them, and every year it's a blimmin nightmare and I regret it. Especially the year that my staff let one girl add 5 wrist corsages to her order when my back was turned .

I can understand what people are saying about being busy etc... As some of you know, I work alone. Family are great with deliveries and helping out in the shop etc. I work all hours at peaks, just like everyone else. Yes many of you think im mad, but its a challenge and thats what im about!

This year I have weddings on xmas eve and the 27th dec. Bring it on as funks said

Yes it's money but... If you do a wedding that's time that could be spent making several rose bouquets for sale over the counter at top dollar, or more orders...So it's money for one thing and not the other. Unless you get an extra florist in but they like to be paid. Damn them.

The few times I've done a VD wedding I've regretted it and said never agian...yes every time I've said never again.

Good for you for accepting it. They are not going to change their wedding date because florists won't do the flowers - they'll go to a freelancer instead.
At least you've warned them about the price and they're still keen...........
