You can still run as a limited company without having 'LTD' plastered over your shop front. You could be 'Fred Blogs International Trading Ltd' trading as 'Joe blogs flowers'.

Limited companies must normally have the word 'limited' (or its Welsh equivalent 'cyfyngedig') as part of their company name. This may be abbreviated to 'ltd.' (or 'cyf.'). However, under Section 30 of the Companies Act 1985, some company names need not include the word 'limited' if they satisfy certain criteria.

Won't go into it, but articles and memorandum of association must promote the arts, religion, science etc.

Marketing wise you need to understand the people you will be targeting and therefore the image you want to give off. The location is also a big factor as you dont want to be calling yourself something that doesnt fit the area and people your selling to.

Villages and small towns often go for "country" and stuff like that, but when you look at larger towns and cities people use more abstract phrases and modern names as they can target different segments of the market.

I would say dont use something that is "En vogue" at the moment as you'll end up looking out of date quite quickly.

Good luck!

Absolutely correct Jake, but what i was simply saying was...you can be a company and trade as another name, as long as your correspondence etc clearly shows your limited status.....

e.g. my company was Haslemere flowers Ltd
I just traded as 'haslemere Flowers'
I didn't have the 'ltd' bit on my shop front or on the van

Floral and Hardy
Pickalily flowers (zingier than Branston!)

What Flower shop name do you know that would put you off giving them an order
just for the name?
Actually some really bad names do put me off sending people orders, we send quite a lot of outgoing orders, and apart from the shops that i know around manchester, I mainly pick which names sound nice hehe Though I don't want to offend anyone by naming names

Strange but true...how the mind works. You've only got to think back to when you were on the market (not that i'm implying any of you were). If your friend asked you to go out on a blind date with someone called Zog or something like that...would you have to think twice?
