its hol season here and tomorrow is my first day that I'll be closing all day on Wednesdays...I figure the world won't end if I am closed a day...pros: -YOU-time to freshen up and maybe get a few things done you normally can't,-saving you money on staff (if you have staff that is!) cons:- you lose a few moolahs...but if its your quietest day isn't it worth it to maybe even get some work done for the shop that will sell better on Thursday or Friday?
Actually I think you answered your own question when you said you are doing 6-7 day weeks...you just CANNOT keep doing this!! I did a year and a half of that and ended up with an ulcer, lost all my friends...except those I can 'talk' to in the middle of the night on the computer and it did a job on my relationship with my bf. Just a thought

hmmmm what a good idea Funky. I am considering closing half day Wednesday, at the moment to catch up on paperwork, but in the future for guaranteed time off like Ellie

I close on a sunday and a monday.
I did this after about 2 months of opening as Monday was a stupidly quiet day. I use the day wisely to get myself straight and caught up with any loose ends, so I am still kinda of working, but not at the shop. I also get the opportunity to catch up with friends and do things I really want to. I feel it makes such a difference to my week. I start off on a tuesday raring to go rather than feeling shattered! You could always divert your shop phone to your mobile and put a sign on the door to let people know that you are still contactable, so you dont miss any big orders. This is what I do. The calls cost a bit more to be transferred, but I feel its worth it. |

We used to only be open Tues-Sat and 9-5, but we started opening on Mondays 'cos we thought we were missing a bit of funeral work (seems like a lot of arrangements are made that day). But Mondays are really quiet and we close at 3 now, we also close at 3 on a Saturday. Working 6 days a week 50 weeks a year (for nowt!) is getting a bit crap.

I have thought of getting my phone diverted MD but we get so many stupid foreign calls about transferring our gas/phone/electric/insurance, late at night that i'd just get more annoyed. Found this out while working late at the peaks.

garden? jungle? hehe, our neighbours (stooopid sods) called in a week before our hols to ask 'if we would be mowing the lawn anytime soon'?!!!!!!!! I told them that I was packing my suitcase for my 3 weeks away...my 1st hols in THREE YEARS SO NO, I WOULDN'T BE MOWING THE LAWN IN THE NEXT 4 WEEKS....is that a problem? Maybe their 16 year old son has a bit of time on his hands? 8€ to mow the lawn?
hehe...we now 'employ' a 16 year old ![]()
