Wetherspoons contract

Does anyone else do flowers for Wetherspoons pubs???

I've found them to be a complete pain in the arse (but that could just be the ones I go to) so I wasn't too bothered when they cancelled their contract (again!!) on Saturday - but I'm intrigued by the excuse they gave me, and would be interested to know if anyone else had been told the same.
They told me that as a "cost cutting" excersise they were now going to be using one national florist for the whole chain of pubs!!??!!
I put them straight (as far as I was concerned anyway - correct me if i'm wrong) that there is no such thing as a 'national florist' to which he replied " I dunno, summat like interflora...." and after correcting him again by pointing out that it wasn't a national florist, just a lot of independent florists joined by a national relay organisation - I gave up!

I'm just interested to know if they were just fobbing me off (probably) or if they've come to a deal with someone???????

The shop that does it here is teleflorist. Nothing exciting though, just a vase of lillies every 2 weeks.

We had the same excuse used on us when we lost the contract to a restaurant Chain (not wetherspoons). We were intrigued so waited to see what was delivered and it turned out it was an independent "florist" approx 60 miles away (not sure if they had a shop front, probably mass produced in a warehouse!) and they got the contract to do 35 restaurants in the chain!!! The quality and standard was greatly reduced and we spoke to the manager who said his hands were tied as they were saving a lot of money and it was a HQ decision not his!!!! They did the same thing with the local fruit and veg supplier!!!

The same happened to my boss, with the same excuse. She also lost 2 other contracts, one was nearly a grand a month. Think every body is feeling the pinch. Might be why she is not sure about swopping my day for another when i start college. She also did not do as well last year at Val & Mothers Day as she did previous years. Did this happen to anyone else??

Boo.

The first visit we had was from the Duty Manager just after we opened in November last year - she wanted 15 lilies right there and then. We only had 8 stems as we had sold 2! I told her I could get her some that morning but she wanted them NOW!! The following week (not on the same day) the same girl came in again and said she wanted £50 of flowers, 15 tables of one flower and then two handties for the bar. Again we made up the order and delivered it.

Then just before Christmas they ordered £50 of flowers made up as above. When I delivered it the girl at the bar looked a bit flummoxed and called another girl who said they hadn't ordered any flowers. (said manager had not told anyone!) They eventually paid for them.

The best bit came on Christmas Eve when the duty manager strolled into shop at 1pm and asked it if we had £50 of flowers - especially red roses!! As we had about five stems of flowers left and the wholesalers had shut at 10am we had to say no and haven't heard from them since.

However we have twice now had bad experiences in the bar when ordering food. The first time we ordered a sunday lunch and desert - the lunch took 25 mins to arrive and 40 mins before she cleared the table. We then waited a further 30 mins for our dessert to arrive when I ask the waitress where our desserts were she shrugged and walked away into the kitchen, was back in about 30 seconds and then said "do you want your desserts or your money back" not even an apology. So I asked to speak to the Duty Manager (the original girl had now left!) who gave me a full refund.

The second time again was a Sunday - they serve sunday lunch from 12noon to 9pm - we went in at 5pm and went to the bar to order our lunch. We hadn't even opened our mouths when the barmaid said "if you want sunday lunch you can't we have sold out". I was flabbergasted. So we walked out and when I got home I emailed Wetherspoons. I got a written reply saying that they would look into it and do more spot checks on that branch but no apology nor any compensation. Needless to say we won't go there again.!!!
