Quick question, very boring one I'm afraid. Does anyone else have problems with their credit card machine? In my 11 weeks of being open my machine has broken three times. I've got on one line, broadband, ansaphone and phone. I decided the fax was a waste of space. Apparently the way to solve this is install another line which I can't afford. What does everyone else do?

my card machine broke after 5 months.

ive got 2 lines, one has phone, fax and broadband.

the other has phone, and pdq.

are you doing end of day banking every day cos i wasn't and i think thats what broke mine. Too much info in the machine, thats what the pdq people said.

i have credit card machine, fax, telephone broadband all plugged into the one phone line, the only time i have a problem is if someone is on the phone and im trying to put a credit card through, and this has been the same at all of the shops i have worked at, my merchant machine is barclays, it has never broken, and i find it to be quite good, i thought i would struggle when the broadband went in but it was fine

Thanks for your replies. I do an end of day print off everyday so don't think its that. I know whats going to happen though, the engineer will come out and tell me its the phone line thats the problem after I've given them grief for 11 weeks! I hate all this technology stuff. its all ok when it works but i lose the plot when it breaks cos I can't fix it myself and the IT bods assume everyone has the same knowledge as them and treat you like a div!

i had a few problems when we just had one line as trying to cope with broadband, phone, fax, answerphone & pdq. they just don't always get along with each other, bit like people.

I had another line put in and that is just the pdq. I can also use it for outgoing calls so i don't tie up the main phone number.

it's really not that dear if it saves you a lot of hassle

I'll see what Mr Engineer has to say and then perhaps I'll bite the bullet and get a second line then. Joy. More expense!

my free phone number only cost me about 2.50 rental a month plus calls usually less than 15 quid in total, that must be a bit more than a normal line?

I spend over a 100 a month on rental, calls, broadband and transaction costs at the moment which is quite alot for a new business. Obviously I couldn't do without any of it but its alot to pay out.

i pay 10 quid + calls for mine, its usually about 23 a month all in.

utility warehouse 0871 222 7777 heres last bill breakdown:
membership fee (classed as discount club) £1.50, Call charges £8.48 +vat 1.74
= Total £11.72 (25 calls)
