100% profit!!!
I'd like to know how your friends keep 100% profit. Just think, for a wedding, she makes 10 carnation buttonholes, she has to buy at least 20, roses are bought in 20's, what I'm trying to say is `what does she do with the flowers that are left over`? that's her profit

HI there,
well I think what most of them do is, get more than one order i.e. a wedding and a few bouquets/arrangements etc. Then they make up their flowers and anything left over goes to sell or if its just one or two arrangements then they go to the local hospital (they mostly sell tho) I dont think theres too much wastage. Nowadays you do see more and more florists/planners working from home.
It is unfortunatley the way things are heading nowadays. The competition with supermarkets is getting harder all the time, and the impulse sales are getting lesser all the time. It simply makes running a shop harder. There will always be a niche for florist shows offering flowers as an impulse buy, but the market will be smaller. By working from home (or a cheap unit) a florist can work with little of no overheads. They don't need staff to man shops when there is little or no trade, they can take holidays when they want, they do not need to carry (much) stock so they have little or no wastage etc etc It has a lot of points going for it. It also fits into a lot of womens lifestyles. They have, or want children, and this is the ideal solution to working and earning money, but having time for a family as well. I don't really like the way things are going, because as an exporter to wholesalers and large retailers I see the market for us diminishing due to the lack of flowers being bought for stock/impulse sales. but unfortunatly the power of the supermarkets have led to this change. |
