fruit and veg

does anyone sell fruit and veg in their shop?

we get asked to do alot of fruit baskets for the local hospital and nursing homes, but go to booker cash and carry to get the fruit there, byut have been advised its cheaper if i get a supplier in and buy by the box. this would leave me with surplus though and could sell in in the shop.
im always being asked if i can sell fruit and veg and the shop is big enough, just wondered if anyone else sells small amounts

Dee

we do fruit baskets sometimes for companies. £30 fruit basket = £10 fruit from the fruit and veg man on the precinct + basket and giftwrapping

Don't know whether most florists would make a good environment to keep fruit in though, they tend to be cold, damp places and the gases fruit give off affects some flowers.

I think fruit baskets are a good idea. Not sure about selling fruit and veg though. Depends whether you are near a supermarket or not though. People are lazy and tend to stock up there. Depending on where you are the organic thing is a possible route. Even making up veg selection boxes for people to buy so you don't end up weighing stuff.

we have scales already, and our shop is large enough to divide half off as it was 2 shops.
we have sheltered accomodation behind us as the street we are on is like a little community, and noone deos fruit and veg, they all have to treck into town centre to get it or the other way to asda or tesco.

Eastbourne is a very oap town and we got loads living near us and they are always asking us if we will do fruit and veg aswell...... just wondered if people who do find it lucrative!!!

I'm in Horsham, so not far from you, I used to do the chalk boards for a pub down in Eastbourne and did an event at the opening of the harbour down there. Thats besides the point though! We had a great fruit and veg shop here but it closed down a couple of years back but Eastbourne is a bit like Gods waiting room (hope thats not offensive!) and the oldies might be interested cos its how they used to shop, however, they do tend to buy one potato, one carrot and a leek. Need to do alot of that to pay the bills!
