What plants?

What plants do you guys stock at this time of year? Every week I struggle with my plant order, my customers are all such stick in the muds that if we try anything different or unusual they just sit there for weeks gathering dust and I am sick of looking at hydrangeas and mini roses! We have quite a big outside display area that takes a few trays of things to fill. Inside isn't so bad, we always have a couple of orchid varieties and foliagey things like helexine and echivera. There is a market twice a week, and three days a week a bloke sets up shop all along the pavement right opposite our shop with trays of bedding and stuff cheaper than I can even buy it, so there's no point in going there, really I'm after ideas for nice flowering gift type plants. Anyone got any suggestions?

what about guzmanias, vriesia, anthuriums, for something that could potentially stay in the shop for a while if you dont sell them straight away.

or our wholesalers are doing a good deal on little pepper plants for something gimiky and cheap.

what about mini cacti in little glass vases filled with layers of coloured sand. they sell well at mine, cos they are only 3.99. or aloe vera for something a little bigger.

Haha, yes, in ideal world I'd do all of them. We have actually got anthuriums and guzmania in stock already, they are always a bit slow but they do go, made the mistake of buying white guzmania cos I like them, only sold 1 so far in it must be 6 weeks! Was pondering the capsicum, but I think of them as an autumn plant and as we've not even had a summer yet was thinking maybe it's a bit soon for them. We had aloes a few weeks ago, they just sat there too . Maybe it's just cos it's so quiet at the mo, the little roses are the only thing that is selling in any quantity, think that's a price thing, we are doing them at £5 in a little gift bag.

I've ordered exacum for Friday, but need at least one more thing...

yup although we had a same day one for all peach roses last week what a nightmare! we had ordered a tray to arrive the day before but it didn't come, the wholesalers plant delivery was delayed, and NO ONE all over manchester had any that weren't half dead, and the best thing was that the order came from a IF shop how stupid!! they should know better, ans when I had to phone them about it they just said 'yeah we've had trouble getting them too' argh!!!!

so true, numbskulls, why do they do it?

I did wonder why they'd added single colour planters, made me wonder if they were centrally fullfilling it, when we've had orders for it it tends to be for Sat or Mon delivery. That grim freesia globe one is the same, see that's back on their homepage .

i wonder why they rolled the rose planter out to shops in the first place after being centrally fullfilled..maybe cos the roses are a pain in the arse to keep and get hold of??
