[quote=Tigress;31569]Hi everyone just joined the forum and very interested in what everyone thinks about their courses, I'm doing the 2nd year of NCFE level 2 in Floristry 1 day per week 9.30 - 4.00, sounds similar to what some of you are doing, there seems to be so many different courses all with the same title.[quote]
Forgive me for butting in yet again to your student forum but I just had to say hello to Tigress and tell her that I agree with all she says. Fashions come and go in floristry all of the time and it is really important to have those basic skills so that we can adapt to the changing fashions. In wedding work handties have been the fashion for some time but recently I have been asked for a lot more shower bouquets and joy oh joy one bride saw a limited bouquet I had made in silk for display and wanted the same in fresh flowers. You are quite right in what you say, brides can only choose from what they know is available, so if we offer more variety we will be asked to do more interesting and challenging arrangements. Keep on posting Tigress. And just because you are students doesn't mean your views have to be limited to this forum. It's great I know, to have somewhere special for students to share ideas and help each other (I wish I had that when I was doing my city and guilds) but we trained florists can benefit from your knowledge too. For instance are any of you doing anything interesting at college or in your shops for Christmas? If you are please post it on the Christmas thread. Old fogies like me can so easily get stuck in our ways; we need your enthusiasm and freshness to remember how exciting this profession is. Keep up the good work girls. ![]()

Hi Tigress, we did our Victorian this week (yuk, very garish) and an Edwardian, which we will be assessed on next week, I must say though I really liked the Edwardian, wouldn't be out of place now. Will post a piccy when I can. Both as you say done in a foam holder, would rather have done a wired one, much more skill, I think I might try one at home and see how I get on.

We made them with fresh flowers for bridesmaids to carry. They were ever so sweet, but took ages to make. Not really practical to offer for weddings because of the time involved making them.
I must admit though I showed my saturday girl how to do them and she made a lovely one in silk flowers to go on her wall at home. So I have since made a silk one as a gift for a friend. If I can actually get my act in order I will make another silk one and post a picture of it for you to see. ![]() Ps thanks for replying, I know I am not supposed to be in here as it's especially for students, I'm just such a nosy old sod I can't mind my own business to save my life ![]()

In absolute panic my friend put together her first ever buttonhole. Next time she was in the shop the owner said to her "was that your first button-hole?" When she said yes the boss said "thought so, the head fell off during the reception - you didn't wire it" ![]() ![]()
