Hi,

When level 1 started last year the room was packed, but by the end we had got it down to a really nice group of about 14.

I found out last night that one of the girls who quit half way through actually passed the course! What a joke! I don't think she even completed half the practicals and to the best of my knowledge didn't even submit her folder. It kind of makes you wonder why you bothered doing all the form filling yourself.

I dunno if Ive met anyone in my class who looks like they might drop out. Maybe this one girl as she's doing the course with her gran and I have a feeling she was forced to do it. As its a big group I havn't got to know everyone yet.

I will know most of my level 2 group - most of us did level 1 together and one other girl was on the 5-week summer course I just did.

We had two girls last year who used to sit there with headphones on listning to i pods? Other annoying thing was being given a deadline for project, busting a gut to get in time. Some hadnt even started it by the deadline and nothing ever got said. Its not all bad, have one tutor who is amazing and very motivating, could do with bit of that at momment so looking forward to Monday.

I cant wait to start learning real techniques and stuff all Ive done in the past before this button hole was to cut flowers from the garden or the fields and plonk them in vase. As far as Im concerned let the time wasters do what they want after all it'll be there grade that suffers not mine. I must be careful though as I am the biggest procrastinator I know!

Sorry, know this is a student thread but I had the same on my course. You'll probably find some people will get loads of help and do very little to pass and the ones that are good are left to get on with it and are expected to really\ pull out all the stops. No idea how it all works!

I'm a bit jealous of you all. I loved being back at college, clinging on to my youth I suppose! I did make three really good friends though who I still see.

Our tutor for level 1 and now level 2 is fantastic - very inspirational and encouraging. Had another tutor on a short weddings course who was an absoulute witch - she said there was to be no talking in her class, treated us like 5 year olds, the 2nd lesson was a handtied bq - she brought in a silk one - didn't even demonstrate what we should be doing and then berated us. She got mucho negative feedback from me. Found out afterwards she's the tutor for level 3 - don't think I'll be doing it if that's the case.

Alby I'm with you. I loved every minute of my city and guilds courses. You can't beat that grounding. Once you are taught the right way to do something you will always do it right. And that's my advice to you students out there. Grab what your tutors are offering you with both hands. Don't be frightened to ask questions no matter how daft you think you sound, because what you learn now will serve you well all though your careers as a florists. What you are doing now at college is just the beginning. I learn something every day and I love it.
All the very best to you girls and don't forget to let us know how you are getting on.
