nvq assessor

Hope this is in the correct area!
I am looking into becoming an nvq assessor for my staff to begin with and possibly in the future an assessor for this area. I'm about to contact my local college to see if they can help, the problem I have is that I have staff here who are desperate to get some qualifications but they have no where to go to do this. (the nearest college is 2 hours drive away and one of my staff has 2 children under the age of 3 so thats a no go!). Are any of you an assessor or had any experience of training for an nvq in the workplace? All comments appreciated. even ones about cake.

NVQ Assessor

Do you have a local enterprise company in your area. They deal with that sort of thing, or they should be able to point you in the right direction to get one.

before I had the shop I was doing the A1 assessors award I think you have to be qualified above the level you want to assess for i.e. you can assess upto level 2 if you've done level 3 yourself. I didn't get it finished before I got my shop cos the person responsible for helping me was never available and I ran out of time.
But when I did my nvqs I got people to assess me in the workplace that weren't assessors I was told that as long as they are more qualified than you or superior to your role they can assess you. I used to take pics of eveything, write my details, attach the pics and then get the relevant manager etc to mark it and do their comments.

you will need to check with the college but i am under the impression you have to have icsf but there are colleges that want to start floristry classes and ask for just experience and you can go and do a teacher training corse through them and that way it doesn't cost you anything i did it that way but i couldn't do nvq till i finished the training but remember my ex boss (retired now) was a college asser and she was qualified to ndsf so you may have to do that one its usally a fresher part-time course through a college then the exam is only done twice a year in a couple of places in the uk its an extermley hard exam as for the theory but practical side shouldn't be a problem good luck.

you don't need an ICSF to be an assessor - what sarah was saying is right. I've had trainees here, some did day release, others went to college one day a month and I signed off their work. Some of their stuff got signed off at college as they did assessments there, but the majority was in the workplace.

so what you're saying is I wouldn't need to be an assessor as long as my staff are enrolled on an nvq course I can mark their work then?
The problem I have is my "students" aren't able to make the long journey to the college so if an assessor was already here- ie me, they wouldn't have to go to the college.
I do like the sound of becomming an assessor though, if and when I have enough of this place it would be a good way of working within the floristry industry, ooo I can imagine the lovely, clean, long nails I could have now.

Not sure on that, because mine went to college and were assessed as well as me doing it for a lot of the units.
