where are you looking?
I'm not sure that people want the jobs enough or try hard enough to secure a job. If you just go round the shops and ask if they've got vacancies then most of them will say no. Why not offer to work for free for the 2 weeks running up to Christmas "just to get work experience"? If you're any good, you'll probably find that you have a job by new year and most would give you some form of financial compensation for the work that you did. Even if there is no job at the end of it, at least you would be able to say on your cv that you have "done" a christmas. Also, a reference from a reputable florist is like gold-dust and would give you an "in" for somewhere else. (However, the reverse is also true if you get a bad reputation.....so make darn sure you make a good impression!!) What do you think Jo, could you say no to some free labour at christmas?
ps pixieone, we've currently got 3 vacancies at A J Guttridge if you're still looking and want to send us your cv |

I'd just like the opportunity to pay someone with half a brain for a decent days work, I don't care if they have no shop experience, to be honest I don't let anything go out the shop unless its made to my standard/style anyway so sometimes it can be better to teach from scratch. I'd like someone from the college though because some basic flower knowledge really helps even if its just for taking orders and serving customers.
I've got a nice shop and a fantastic reputation, so where are all these people who want a job??? Last edited by Just me; 27-09-2007 at 04:41 PM. |
