Stem structures
Hi all Can anyone help on a bit of the cut flower assignment for Level 2? Its to do with stem structures on flowers and foliage - do some cut flowers have both woody and semi woody stems eg rosa? I'm getting confused as to what is being asked for in the project, most books I can find have all info you could wish for except the stem structure! Have also tried internet and a gardener friend who said could be both depending on time of year! We have to stipulate soft, semi woody, woody or hollow. By the way my work experience with Jane Packer is going great, they are really nice there, but commuting 2 hours to get there (and 2hrs back) plus 9 - 4 working is tough (well at least for me, I'll just have to build up my stamina). How is everyone elses work experience going? Jules

Hi Jules, we did stem structures at school on Saturday - I'm away from home at the moment but will happily post some notes here or pm you if you prefer when I get back Thursday

Thanks for your help - there are about 20 flowers and 10 foliages which might be too many to list here - can you recommend a book? Otherwise we could maybe do a few a day?? ha ha eg asparagus umbellatus, chamaecyparis, dendrobium, dendranthema ...
