Hi there, I would imagine if anyone has commissioned this research they probably wouldn't give the info away but if I was doing the assignment I would contact:
a) a consumer Market research agency such as Mintel who conduct surveys on consumer trends - but as I said they're commissioned on behalf of clients so won't just tell you but they might put you in touch with someone if they can help b) Flowers and Plants Association - again if they don't have the info they might know who has c) Google d) BBC - Gardners World did a recent programme on the cut flower market - there's a thread on here, somewhere! e) why not conduct your own research; draw up a questionnaire to find out where local people to you buy their flowers, how often, what reasons etc etc. Obviously it wouldn't be definitive but might give you a snapshot - although good luck with getting people to stop and answer your questions (keep the questionnaire short) I'd be up front and tell all you're a student and its for your coursework If I think of anything else will let you know. Hope it helps

Thanks guys. I have done an HND and have no problem researching. I have tried mintel, mori, flower & plant association, masterflorist, blah blah blah! It has to be the whole market segmentation. I am more than capable of carrying out a survey, but unfortunately it's not what they are asking for. You'd think City & Guilds would know where the info is, but they don't!
How can you set an assignment, no resources, no reading list, and expect students to be able to do it! ra Ra RA!

Now that is a very good idea! If anyone would know it should be the Florist Wholesale Buyer Mag. I would try private messaging carrington, she seems a very approachable lady.
Patway that is a great link, I found it really interesting. I am not surprised to hear that supermarkets take 65% of the markets. They have cornered the "cheap wrap" section of the market and are moving into other areas now. They can afford to undercut florists. Its happened to butchers and bakers and I guess we are the candlestick makers! I think over the coming years you will see less and less high street florists, and those who are left will be specialists.

Wish it had been about when I did my C & G had to do as Tree suggested and actually talk to humans...not a good experience but got me thru rofl:
Yes most if not all have the flowers as loss earners just to get people in the doors and they will spend money on other things they do not really want. ![]() |
