Found this teriffic site last night and posted on one of the other message boards. I have rec'd some replies and everybody is friendly and has made me very welcome!

I currently work as a housing officer and I have done for the last 10 yrs and I hate it

So 2 yrs ago I went back to college (a mature student) and did a non-certificate garden design course which I loved. My own garden was my project for the yr.

I then went onto study Floristry C&G level 2 last year and passed -got my cert's in June and I started the C&G level 2 creative floristry techniques course (1 day a week), which I love but I am finding it quite hard to be honest.

I seem to have a mental block on the creative side - I have looked at floristy books and mags - to get idea's yet when I am in the classroom my creative juices doesn't flow!!!

Whereas when I am at home I can create good projects and expland on my design work. However, I am learning loads and I am sure it will all knit together. I have had 3 different placements one day per week and I find that this can be confusing as each shop will do almost everything different and then college teaches you the 'right way' of doing things. Only to be told in the shop that they way college teaches you things they would not be able to sell them like that in the real world. Confused I am.

Anyway, it is my dream to leave work and eventually after a couple of yr's experience to open my own shop - I have had a couple of stores and have sold my wares and I have just got 3 orders from work for xmas wreaths. So slowly but surely I am getting there!!

Does anybody else find some of the floristy work confusing and hard at times?

ta, LULU

There really is a huge amount to learn. Once you are surrounded by lots of lovely flowers you get inspired by them. Its true that alot of stuff you make at college wouldn't sell in a shop but its worth sticking at it just to learn the basics. Have a look through the gallery on here. Theres all sorts of great ideas.
