I've just looked at the new Judith Blacklock Christmas Book. It's awful! Looks like something straight out the 70's. Terrible cheap ribbon bows with visible garden wire...not impressed.

I did an HND in Business & Management before deciding to floristry. It was a 2 year, full time, level 5 and lots of work, but I would recomend something like an A-level in Business, or a practical evening course designed for people looking to start a business. Doing the flowers is the less tricky part, balancing books, marketing and legal and regulatory frameworks are more complex.

Yes it was and helped me decide no I didn't want to run a business not that it put me of, the course was excellant I had doubts before I even started and did think 'don't know why I'm doing this' but it was very enjoyable and informative. At the stage I went I knew o/h would give up his business within 5 years and if I started up then I would be tied and with that in back of my mind I knew I would never start up on my own but yes if I had been 10 years younger I would definately have taken the plunge and gone for it.

I know I definitely want my own business after 15 years building up someone elses. It was nice to be in from the beginning to see where we are now with a £2m+ turnover. Downside of that tho is that we have to make £75k a month to stand still!

Its been a good grounding though for me as have learnt a lot that can apply to running a florist business.

I admire any one who has the ambition and the courage to go for it, afraid where I could be the big toughie in lots of things that's where I ended up being the big coward even hubby talked and talked non stop go for it you can do it but no, stubborn as a mule I make a decision and that's it nothing will change my mind.

No one can know us better than we know ourselves, and we have to be true to that and do what's right for us at that time.

She rang me once to see if I'd give one of her students work experience. I interviewed her so got to see the portfolio. Some of the stuff is nice but it is quite traditional and I don't think it'd give you the exposure to modern designs.
