Double chrysanth all the way Pixie, euros are small headed, zembla are good sized head. White will be easiest to get hold of but also come in pinks, yellows and creams.
Can be done in regans but they're a ball ache to use as the stems are usually pretty weak so you have to keep wiring them all up....Pretty effect though.

Cool Basing

I agree with pixie - but it depends what it is for or what effect you want to achieve.

I lost my first born, Robert, he was still born and I like to try different ideas out to take to his grave each xmas.

This year I have used half a deco board and a large conical (triangle shape) which I have attached to the deco board. I have then cut 3 different sizes of oasis blocks and fashioned poly ribbon to it so they look like presents. I will be basing the deco board with spider xanth's so it looks bumpy to give the impression of snow. The triangle will either be covered with blue spruce of q press so it looks like an xmas tree. I have a large silver star to glue to the top and I will be spraying the artifical snow on the stop part of the tree and around the botton I will be using silver glitter and on the spider xanth so it looks like glistening snow. Finally I will be gluing a boys car to the finished dec board.

The pressies will be decorated with yoko ono, and 2 x different colours of regan so they look like wrapping paper and finally a bow added on top.

Last year I did a large 3d snowman. I like this part of floristry - the creative side!

With basing try using other flowers, ie experiment!

Jo is right, you will see in most the design guides they use doubles. I had to use kermit for a butterfly for my relay operator but I found that I needed to wire every head, that takes time on a large design, but I must admit the effect was worth it.

Yes, Jo is talking sense for a change...spot on!

Lulu..Still not sure how to word this properly as it's such a sensitive subject and not a position anyone would choose to be in but you made me think, isn't it a nice feeling to be able to do something like that yourself, not having to ask someone to do it for you. It just makes it so much more special.
