No need to apologise I don't mind prattling on particularly if I get more points/prizes prattle away- just wondered if anyone knew the answer to my question that's all. Too busy sweeping floor to prattle on myself

Ruscus aculeata

Raven, the garden common name for this ruscus is butcher's broom. It is ABSOLUTELY dead easy to grow in a British garden. It will take sun or partial shade, but has to have well-drained soil. Gardeners like it because it will grow in dry, sandy soil in light shade where most things won't and makes a nice ground cover. Any good garden centre should have it, or try crocus.co.uk.

Thanks for that although I think you're barking up the wrong ruscus as it were. I actually need the bendier shiner sister called danae racemosa which doesn't seem as common to get hold of even if it is easy to grow. What started off as a but of a curiousity has now become a bit of a challenge, to find and grow this 'rare' plant.

Smile Danae was the mother of Perseus of Greeek myth

Not as easy to grow as the ruscus (although it used to be a ruscus before the botanists got chop happy and divided the family), the gardener's common name is Alexandrian laurel (why I have no idea) and it can be hard to establish. It is hardy, though, and will do everything from full sun to full shade as long as the soil is moist and has good drainage (hates clay) when you are trying to establish it. I'd give it partial shade, though. In full shade, I have seen established plants tolerate pretty dry soil and spread like mad. Wyevale used to carry it, but I would try specialists like Burncoose Nurseries or Architectural Plants. It does spread, though, so you may not love it so much once you have it!
