Interesting idea Chris.
I did a short wedding course last year with the tutor from hell who wouldn't let me use Xants that I took along - she said they were NEVER EVER used in wedding work. I argued that I'd seen them on the web/books and she told me she didn't care how many books I'd read. She's the reason I'm not going on to level 3 at my college as she's the tutor for it!

ughh I hate ignorant tutors that say you can't use that, you can't do that
the only reason xants in general are not often used in wedding work is cos of their cheap rep, brides tend to pick more expensive flowers like roses. But there are some really nice new varieties now I love the pinky button xant thats green in the centre its really interesting.

Yes, she was pretty stuck in her ways. The pic I'd seen was fab. Thankfully I had other flowers to use that day, otherwise I'd have been stuck. She physically took them out of my hand - I felt like I was 5 yrs old!
You guys are getting me all motivated! Can't wait to get to the wholesalers Thanks

She is Apple! 5 of us (out of 12 from my level 1 course) did the short course. We're all on level 2 now and none of us going on to level 3 with her. The college might question why perhaps.
Our current tutor is fab and although she keeps quiet when we have a moan about the other one, you can see she knows what we mean. Wasn't it Paula Pryke who said the rules were there to be broken - wouldn't argue with her on that. Floristry is creative and we should be able to express that creativity and not be put down by those clearly out of touch - most of the time it'll work, and sometimes it won't I guess ![]()

It's a real shame this lady has put you off. You are great gals and could easily achieve excellent results if you pursue courses. Have you looked at other colleges?

Don't let one person put you off - as suggested look at other colleges or even go to floralartmall.com (I think thats right) as they do terrific DVDs if you can't get the level 3 training.
and by the way you can pass on to the witch that I had a bridal bouquet of xanths - it was beautiful - I was married in November and just wanted seasonal flowers - florist thought i was mad but she did an excellent job! It was 30 years ago and we didn't have the choice that we have now in the late autumn!

NEVER wrong
There are NEVER wrong flowers for any design, occasionally inappropriate, perhaps too large, too small, too bright etc., but that doesn't make it wrong!
