shower bouquet, tear drop or half shower, oasis posy uses bridal holder (icecream cone i call it) that is the medium. Usually used for traditional type bouquets arranged in the oasis holder. The only flowers that would be difficult to use in them is really thick stems like amaryllis and really thick calla oh and soft stems although they could be wired like hyacinth, popular flowers would be roses, mini calla, freesia, any of the fillers and foliage usually soft ruscus, tree fern, ivy, bears grass, leather fern, eucolyptus.
Pomanders for flower girls (puke), the oasis ball would be the medium. Usually use small flowers like spray roses, hyacinth pips etc to get a nice ball shape
Baskets for flower girls, the basket would be the medium and small flowers again usually roses, freesia, tulips etc
there are also a number of novelty items you could mention, wire frames, twiggy frames and baskets, oh cornocopia

Funeral work: there are all the bases which would be the mediums: closed heart, open heart. pillow, cushion, gates of heaven, crosses, posy pads, wreath....they are the most common ones which can be either based with usually double chrysanths or carnations, or they can be textured using different textures and shapes of foliage and/or flowers. there are a million other shapes like motorbike, car, guitar, bunny, teddy etc which are usually based so that they keep their shape and you can see what they are supposed to be. Posy pad, crosses, open & closed heart, wreath, spray holder(for single and double ended sprays) are also done with mixed flowers and foliage

Arrangements well that is a mindfield, my brain is a bit frazzled after funeral work, but a few ideas: vases, are plant arrangements counted that would be soil as medium, baskets, china pots, baby china posts in shapes of trains, bears etc, if you were to make a birds nest type frame work from twigs or wire I think that would be counted as a medium and thread the flowers through it like calla, tulips that have bendy stems

I hope that helps you gill and I havent just waffled on about a load of poo

this has been a great help
thank you gill

oh, I forgot letters and numbers, NAN, GRAN, MUM, DAD, PAPA are the usual but you can make up any name up to 7 letter as more than 7 wont fit in the hearse, they can be based in xnths or carnations with 1, 2 or 3 sprays depending how big it is, they can also be mixed flowers & foliage. All the bases are usually ribbon or foliage edge apart from mixed wreath and funeral spray and mixed posy. There is also designer boards that can be cut into any shape or leave them as boards and trace any picture onto board like Treen picture boards in the gallery. There is 3d shapes too, cat, dog, sitting bear etc....they are done in xnths also so you can get the shape....anyway really cant think of anything else now so Im going to shut up....good luck with your assignment

hi gill, not saturday night anymore, sunday morning reality time, hangover and all

I was never very good at assignment work but will try and help a wee bit. effective use of flowers and colour in a traditional arrangement - think effective use of flowers would be, smaller flowers on the outside and larger ones nearer the middle to create visual balance, recession to create depth and the darker the recessed colour the more depth you create??? OMG what am i on about anyway, I'll continue with me waffle.....contemporay, the use of large headed flowers, lines and grouping of flowers creates impact and interest, most modern designs foliage plays a big part in with large leaves, grasses, plaited (spelling) leaves etc, being just as important for impact and interest. funeral work, by using double chrysanths for basing means you can create a wide range of design shapes, 3d etc, because the whole point of doing these shapes is at the end of the day they look realistic as well as neat (more waffle)? also i think effective use of flowers in funerals would be to use open blooms as opposed to tight buds, for 2 reasons, more impact and you can use less flowers and get a bigger design.....it only really needs to look fabulous for the funeral. weddings, colour would be when you match up the colour of the bridesmaids dresses with the flowers, effective use of flowers, well probably by using choice blooms like orchids, roses etc, making the wedding design special? Colour is a bit of a minefield really with its monocromatic (spelling), one colour if i remember correctly, making designs look kind of classic i suppose, all white springs to mind. bright, spring colours creating more impact? Anyway, hope this helps a bit
