Maybe it depends on how cold your winter can be. I have to dig them up. Dahlias cant take any freezing. I dig them up, wrap them in newspaper and store them cold and frost free. Its hard work but when you are a ,as you put it, dahlia fanatic ( I am) there is no other way. Spring time the same hard work is there but what the .... I love it. When they are in bloom anyway

No chance PMF, I've got plenty to do. My brother in law has eight acres of land i can use. Last winter i started to plant trees and shrubs for the business that we can use. The waste from the shop I'm about to make a large compost bin so that can be reused. So i have plenty to do and plan for.

Wow you are on a great little earner there we have 4 people who allow us to trim back all their trees etc as well as my garden 1 acre all shrubs trees etc certainly saves a lot on foliage

l know Rach. The other thing is when we opened the new shop a farmer just out of the town has loads of Ivy, Holly and all different kinds of greenery and he just wants rid of it. He or his wife drop in every week and ask what we would like and the next day they turn up with it.
What i want to get growing is cupressus. The ones i had growing in pots at home the dog has eaten, so i have to start again.

Watch the rabbits they will strip them in no time you will need to put something around them until they get established I had chicken wire everywhere bloody rolls and rolls of the stuff due to losing 90 trees and shrubs to rabbits still tortured with them can have 30 to 40 at any time of the day in the garden they have got used to the dogs and visa versa so they all play together

Rach you do make me laugh. On a serious note I have all my trees well gaurded. I have seen some damage but they should survive. If i had as many as you have, a twelve bore springs to mind.

Actually will ask few questions guy along the road from us has gun dogs hunts has boarding kennels fishes and yes cooks a mean stuffed rabbit we have had it, yuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyy
