Hi all
I have been asked to use Vanda Orchids for a wedding and haven't worked with them before so need some advice. Will they stay fresh if I wire and tape the buttonholes etc the night before or am I better to leave until the morning of the wedding. I have quite alot to do and am worried about time on the day. Have also been asked to put them in a hand tied bouquet along with other flowers, should I wire them individually and thread them through the rest of the stems, am assuming their shape will not really allow me to use them on the stem? Also does anyone know how they arrive from the wholesaler, was planning to have them delivered with the rest of the flowers 2days before e.g open and ready to use or do I need to get them in a week before to give them time to open up? Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Moo
That's what I thought, just a bit nervous about leaving it to the day to experiment and sadly as Tesco's don't sell stems of vanda orchids I can't buy one in advance to have a practise with! Do you think the buttonholes will be ok done the night before? Can I spray them with 'glory' to keep them fresh?

I wouldnt dream of spraying it just incase, it can sometimes leave white marks.
Im not sure, wait until another member comments, see what others say. Nope, you wont find them in supermarkets haha, mine was £40 (plant) x |

They come in a box of about 4 stems and about 6/8 heads on each stem. You pay per head usually a minimum qty of 20 or so. They're ready to use all open and fabby....there is two shades of purple...light and dark and 2 sizes of head also.
Blue Magic, bigger flowers sold x 16 Dark Blue Magic, medium flowers sold x25 Have wired them into bouquet on the morning of the wedding...otherwise dont think I'd sleep for a week

Thanks for the advice guys,I am using the smaller dark blue magic variety. I think I will just get up even earlier on the day of the wedding and do all the wiring and taping then, otherwise I don't think I will sleep worrying about how they are doing if I make them up the night before and I will be getting up every hour to check on them!
No Gizmo, as a rule Tescos don't supply my wedding flowers ( haha!) but I must admit I do find them useful on occaison if I want to 'experiment' with something before the big day and need to pick up a cheap bunch of something to have a play about with!

I did have glue them & they than lasted 3 days in a summer.
I suppose it can be the same with wiring because you seal the stem end with stemtape.![]() In a water they last very long, of course lower flowers start droping first, but I had mine in a vase for 1,5 month's. |
