Wedding cake topper
I am decorating a friends wedding cake for her and would like to use roses. I have found posy picks and understand that i need these to secure the topper. The question is would you wire the roses to make a posy or would you place the roses individually into seperate posy picks.
Thank you. |

You wont be able to push the picks into the cake as it will crack the icing. If you just want to put a spray of flowers on the top then you can just make up what is required and attach it with a dab of icing at the reception, wired will still be best as its lighter and more controlable. Main worries are the type of floor the cake will be positioned on. I've seen them on a boarded floor before and every time someone walked across the floor the whole thing bounced. If the floor is firm then you should be able to lay a spray directly on to the cake providing you dont use anything likely to case a problem....Ivy, euphorbia etc.
One more thing dont spray the flowers just before you place them, the water drops will eat into the icing...............not good.

I have done a few cakes like this and i think your best bet is to secure the roses using an acrylic round clear disc with Florist Fix. You can glue this in the centre of the disc and then add your wired flowers. Not a good idea to take any chances with puting metal wires on icing that someone is going to eat, just incase any gets left behind when the cake is being cut up.
Just secure the acrylic disc to the top of the cake with a blob of royal icing. Will be much easier to remove as well when it's being cut up. You can get clear acrylic discs from good cake decorating shops. A good one that i use from time to time is "A Piece of Cake" in Thame, they do mail order and have a really good website. Or you could try Design a Cake they have a good website too and they are very helpfull. Hope this is of some use ![]() Really good advice from cassonade about not getting the icing wet, would be a nightmere!
